Aromas of crushed dark fruits with hints of pine needles and underbrush. Full and powerful palate underlying a sense of elegance. Polished tannins. Made from old head-pruned vines in the village of Lanciego in Rioja. Not as great as the 2010 but clearly outstanding. Drink now but better in 2018.

There is an extra degree of elegance, precision and focus in the 2012 Altos de Lanzaga compared with the regular Lanzaga from that same year. It is produced from four small plots of over 70-year-old vines at 500-600 meters altitude, planted on very poor soils that are biodynamically farmed. It fermented in 3.000-kilo oak vats for 20 days with indigenous yeasts and matured in 1.500-liter oak foudres and 225-liter barriques for some 18 months. The nose might be a little reticent at first, quite subtle, serious, balanced, a little backward. There is great balance, very fine tannins and very good freshness. This wine is very tasty, combining elegance and power. This is a very good vintage of Altos, with enough stuffing and balance to age magnificently in bottle. 2.500 bottles were filled in June 2014.

It's always interesting to compare the 2018 Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de San Vicente de la Sonsierra with the wine from the same year but from the external suppliers from Labastida, as the two wines are produced in the same way after a natural fermentation in small vats and oak casks and matured in a combination of barriques of different origins and aged for 14 months. In this cooler year, it has contained ripeness and moderate alcohol. This is more expressive and open, showing everything from the first moment. 2018 is a special year, cooler and with more rain, and the wines combine power with elegance. For Pablo Eguzkiza, the year is a little like 2013. It's medium-bodied with fine, abundant tannins, with plenty of fruit and a dry, chalky finish. 86.800 bottles produced. It was bottled between April and May 2020.

Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja 2017

Die Weinberge für den Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja 2017 liegen in den Gemeinden von San Vicente de la Sonsierra und Laguardia. Die Weingärten stehen auf etwa 550 Metern Höhe und hier wird 100% Tempranillo angebaut. Die Reben stehen auf kalkhaltigen Tonböden welche mit gösseren Kiessteinen durchsetzt sind. Der Ausbau Erfolgt über jeweils 14 Monate in zweit und drittbelegten Fässern aus französischer und amerikanischer Eiche. Die Vergärung erfolgt Temperaturgesteuert mit wilden Hefen aus den Sierra Cantabria Weinbergen. Die Crianza ist nicht überladen vom Holzfassausbau, es ist genügend jugendliche Frucht erhalten. Dunklere Waldbeeren nimmt man in der Nase wahr, begleitet von zarten Röstnoten, etwas Vanille, etwas Gewürze und trotzdem eine saftige Kirschfrucht. Ein wirklicher Allrounder für die spanische oder mediterrane Küche. Ganz klar und harmonisch am Gaumen mit zarten weichen Tanninen, feiner Säurenerv und genügend Dichte um auch zur gut gewürzten Küche zu passen. Der Sierra Cantabria Crianza Rioja 2016 ist das Paradebeispiel wie eine Crianza aus der Rioja zu schmecken hat.

Lots of fresh and linear fruit in this crianza with crushed berries and licorice. Medium to full body. Lightly chewy yet polished tannins. Flavorful finish. Drink now.

The 2016 Crianza is pure Tempranillo from a year they consider spectacular because of the health and ripeness that the grapes achieved very slowly. The destemmed grapes fermented in stainless steel and the wine matured in French and American oak barrels for 14 months. It is still quite toasty and has a classical profile despite the new-ish oak. a little creamy. with that soft, voluptuous mouthfeel but with the fresh profile of the 2016 vintage, with red rather than black fruit. It's a year of good yields and the fruit and the wines have very good balance and freshness, less concentrated and more drinkable. It's a year of balance and freshness, with good yields and healthy grapes. It has to be one of the finest vintages for this wine. 150.000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2019.
