So much earth and spice with walnut and wet earth. Like fog laying over the valley in the morning. Black fruit. Medium-to full-bodied with super-fine tannins that are long and persistent, with graceful progression and length on the palate. So long, with real definition. September 2022 release. From biodynamically grown grapes. Hard not to drink now, but will age wonderfully.

The 2019 Proprietary Red Wine is more open and effusive than the 2018 version, with gentle floral nuances set against a backdrop of black cherries and cassis, joined by subtle notes of tobacco, cedar and vanilla. In the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied, streamlined, silky and lush, nicely balanced and elegant, with a long, softly dusty finish tinged with licorice and caramel. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

I was blown away by the 2019 Red Blend from Quintessa, which is up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère, this full-bodied beauty has a perfectly balanced, seamless, yet expansive and classic 2019 style as well as gorgeous aromatics of cassis, flowers, chalky minerality, and integrated oak. It’s hard to resist already, but I have no doubt this will evolve for 20 years if stored properly.

The beautiful center-palate of fruit is so enticing and the finish goes on for minutes. Coolness at the end with blue fruit. Stunning really. Give it time, if you can keep your hands off it. 76% cabernet sauvignon, 16% cabernet franc, and 8% merlot. Best after 2025.

In 2009, Peter Michael purchased the former Showket Vineyard in Oakville, on the hillside below Continuum and above Dalla Valle. That is the source for the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. Matured in 60% new French oak, it's a fairly forward, opulent wine, marked by scents of cigar box, tobacco, cassis, cherries and fine leather. Full-bodied, rich and velvety without being chocolaty or overdone, the lingering finish is—texturally—plush winter-weight flannel pajamas interwoven with complex, faintly herbal threads.

Winemaker Michael Silacci commented that usually the blends are finished in January or February after the vintage. This year, with the 2019s, he was still tweaking the blend, but he did mention that this is "pretty close to the final blend." Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Opus One leaps from the glass with notes of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, mulberries and fresh blackcurrants plus hints of licorice, wilted roses, Sichuan pepper and iron ore. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with juicy black, blue and red fruits, framed by velvety tannins and background freshness, finishing on a compelling earthy/mineral note. Tasted as a barrel sample, this is a truly magnificent Opus One in the making!

Very long finish. All about finesse and wonderful length. 68% cabernet sauvignon, 19% cabernet franc, 10% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Drink after 2023

Located in Knights Valley, Sonoma, the Les Pavots vineyard is located in the oldest of the estate-owned sites, planted in 1989. It is situated at 1,000-1,400 feet and is quite steep in areas. Composed of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Les Pavots is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a fair bit of coaxing to unlock the intense scents of blackcurrant preserves, ripe black plums and boysenberries with touches of wild sage, tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. The full-bodied palate is densely packed and tightly wound with loads of black fruits, dried herbs and earthy layers, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and energetic. 3,255 cases were made.

Peter Michael’s Au Paradis vineyard is composed of the red, rocky, volcanic soils common to parts of Pritchard Hill, which makes sense since it is located in Oakville foothills, below Continuum and above Dalla Valle. Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis sashays out of the glass with gorgeous notes of kirsch, cassis and redcurrant jelly, plus suggestions of garrigue, clove oil, lavender and spearmint with a touch of cast-iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with bright, crunchy black fruit flavors, lifted by herbal and red fruit sparks and textured with firm, grainy tannins, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. 2,171 cases were made.

Flawlessly balanced, full-bodied, with silky yet present tannins, it's one of those elegant, seamless wines that surprise you with its richness and depth. It reminds me of a great vintage from Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou and is a brilliant, elegant, complex Cabernet that will evolve for two decades or more.

This is beautifully polished with firm, dusty tannins to the blue fruit, as well as chocolate and cedar character. Some much earthier character, too, from mushrooms to bark. Forest flowers. Perfumed. It’s full-bodied with round tannins and a soft, creamy finish. Some iron and iodine to this. So attractive at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Better after 2023.

Anmerkungen zum Jahrgang:
Nach fünf warmen Jahren war die Vegetationsperiode 2018 gleichmäßig und ausgeglichen, wobei der Austrieb zwei Wochen später als im Vorjahr begann. Das gemäßigte Wetter gab den Takt vor, um ein gesundes Blätterdach und einen Weinberg zu schaffen, der mit milden Bedingungen, einem Mangel an Extremen und einer Fülle an hochwertigen Früchten gesegnet war. Die Harmonie der Saison 2018 ermöglichte ein tieferes Verständnis dafür, wie die biodynamischen Anbaumethoden weiterentwickeln können, um die Reben auf den vielfältigen Böden von Quintessa zu unterstützen. Die milden Witterungsbedingungen hielten während der gesamten Ernte an und brachten Trauben von perfekter Reife und Säure hervor, die Zeit für die Entwicklung von Phenolen und Aromen hatten, ohne dass der Druck eines steigenden Brix-Wertes bestand. Es folgte eine lange und fast gemächliche Ernte, mit Zeit für präzise Entscheidungen, die sich in der Reinheit und Raffinesse des Quintessa 2018 zeigen.

Extremely perfumed and floral with lavender, lilacs and violets to the sweet, ripe berries, such as blackberries and blackcurrants. Some slate and graphite, too. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so balanced and refined, with super fine tannins that last for minutes. Fresh herbs, such as bay leaf and lemon grass highlight the dark fruit. The quality of tannin is exquisite with wonderful polish and refinement. Lasts for minutes. So wonderful to taste now, but better after 2026.

Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Opus One soars out of the glass with bright, bold boysenberries, warm cassis and ripe, juicy black plums notes, plus emerging nuances of lilacs, oolong tea, cinnamon stick, tilled soil and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with tightly wound layers of crunchy black fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing with lifted fruitiness and on a lingering mineral note.

The 2018 Opus One is incredibly elegant and polished, right out of the bottle. Silky tannins and lifted, perfumed aromatics add to an impression of finesse that distinguishes the 2018 from some of the preceding vintages in a pretty big way. It will be interesting to see if the 2018 gains body with a bit of time in bottle. It is pretty rare for Opus One to be so approachable at this stage.

Die Weinberge verteilen sich in den besten Appelationen des Nap Valley: Diamond Mountain District. Mount Veeder. Stags Leap. Howell Mountain. St. Helena. Spring Mountain District. Für den Cardinale 2013 Proprietary Red Wine verwendet der begnadete Christopher Carpenter aus 10 verschiedenen Weinbergen Cabernet Sauvignon des Napa Valley welche dann 86% der finalen Blend repräsentieren. Und aus den Weinbergen des Howell Mountain Districts stammen 14% Merlot in der Blend für den Cardinale 2013. Der Ausbau erfolgt über 19 Monate in 100% französischem Holz. der Neuholzanteil beträgt 91%. Die Abfüllung erfolgt ungeschönt und unfiltriert.

Robert Parker beschreibt am 30. Oktober 2015 den Cardinale 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wie folgt:

A brilliant wine from winemaker Chris Carpenter and the Kendall-Jackson family, this blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, mostly coming from mountain vineyards owned by the Jackson family, is fabulous. The 2013 Cardinale Proprietary Red Wine is dense purple-colored, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis as well as licorice, blackberry and espresso are all present in this full-bodied, rather sublime and intense Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for 25 or more years. This was aged in about 91% new French oak for 18-20 months prior to bottling. It is certainly one of the finest Cardinales I have tasted in my experience.

Die Produktion von Rubicon, dem Spitzenrotwein von Inglenook, begann 1978 und stellte das das Erbe des Weinguts, Weine von Weltklasse herzustellen. Rubicon ist ein eleganter Verschnitt aus den besten
Weinbergsblöcken und zeigt das höchste Potenzial des Weinguts und des Jahrgangs. Unter der Leitung von Philippe Bascaules, dem Leiter der Weinherstellung bei Inglenook, nimmt Rubicon stolz seinen Platz neben viel älteren, verehrten Jahrgängen von Inglenook in den Kellern von Sammlern Kellern auf der ganzen Welt.

Alle Früchte wurden zwischen dem 1. September und dem 5. Oktober von Hand geerntet. 5. Oktober geerntet. Inglenook betreibt seit den 1980er Jahren ökologischen Landbau und war eines der ersten Weingüter im Napa Valley, das 1994 als biologisch zertifiziert wurde. Der 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon, eine Assemblage aus 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc und 4% Merlot, ist besonders vielversprechend. Zarte Nuancen von getrocknetem Salbei und Thymian spielen zwischen den reifen Kirschen, die von Zedernholz und Vanille umrahmt sind. Er ist von mittlerem bis vollem Körper und seidiger Textur, mit einem herben, köstlichen Abgang und einer wahrscheinlich langen Lebensdauer.

Attraktive und überzeugende Nase von dunklen Kirschen, Johannisbeeren, gewürzten Pflaumen, gegrillten Kräutern, Zedernholz und Backgewürzen. Ein Hauch von getoasteter Eiche. Er ist mittelkräftig mit feinkörnigen Tanninen. Vielschichtig und gut strukturiert mit einem delikaten Charakter am Gaumen. Ausgewogenheit mit einem präzisen und komplexen, sich entwickelnden Abgang. Ein erstaunlicher Wein mit Ausgewogenheit und Harmonie und großer Länge. Besser nach 2026.

Intensiv, kraftvoll und konzentriert, voller dunkler Brombeeren, mit Kakaobohnen, geräucherten Mandeln, Espresso und einer Reihe von winzigen Impulsen von Schottermineralität. Er fängt die Kraft von Rutherford ein, ohne dabei auf Finesse oder Genuss zu verzichten, einfach ein großartiger Wein, in den man sich leicht verlieben kann. Die muskulösen Tannine brauchen noch ein paar Jahre, bevor sie sich voll entfalten, und könnten in der Flasche für ein Jahrzehnt oder länger aufbewahrt werden, oder für eine gute, lange Karaffe sorgen. No, it's not made in a modern, blockbuster style, but it's true to its heritage, with subtle herb shadings and a long, silky finish.

der den viel gepriesenen Inglenook 1941 Cabernet Sauvignon aus Rebstöcken herstellte, die der ursprüngliche Gründer Gustave Niebaum aus Bordeaux auf das Weingut brachte.

Im Januar und März fiel willkommener Regen, der den Boden von Inglenook für einen gesunden Knospenaufbruch nährte. Die wärmeren Temperaturen im Mai förderten die Blüte und führten zu außergewöhnlichen Wachstumsbedingungen im Sommer. Kleine Baumkronen begünstigten eine langsame und stetige Zuckeranreicherung, was zu einem bescheidenen Ertrag von exquisiter Qualität. Alle Früchte wurden zwischen dem 1. September und dem 5. Oktober von Hand geerntet. Inglenook betreibt seit den 1980er Jahren ökologischen Landbau und ist eines der ersten Weingüter im Napa Valley, das 1994 als biologisch zertifiziert wurde. Das Experimentieren ist in der DNA von Inglenook eingebettet, und im Rahmen dieser laufenden Evaluierung werden Überlegungen zu Klimawandel, Rebenalter Alter der Rebstöcke, Jahrgang und andere Faktoren zeigen, dass ein Weingut vom Kaliber und der Qualität von Inglenook immer in der Entwicklung begriffen ist.

Die Verkostungsnotiz der Kalifornier: Dieser Wein zeichnet sich durch eine wunderbar konzentrierte rote Frucht aus. Die Lebendigkeit des Weins wird durch einen langen und überzeugenden Abgang ergänzt, bei dem die anhaltende Säure das Gesamterlebnis am Gaumen bereichert. Subtile Noten von Eichenholz verleihen dem Wein eine nuancierte Komplexität und verstärken seine Tiefe. Die Tannine, die elegant strukturiert sind, tragen zur Gesamtfeinheit des Weins bei.

Helle Himbeeren und Kirschen werden in der Nase des Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 von attraktiven Noten von Salbei und Lorbeer unterstrichen. Er wurde vor der Abfüllung als zukünftiger Verschnitt verkostet und ist wirklich vielversprechend, mit großer Textur und Länge.

Dies ist ein ernsthafter Wein mit einem tiefdunklen, fruchtigen Charakter, Noten von Jod, schwarzen Oliven, verkohlter Rinde, rauchigem Feuerstein und rohen Pilzen. Voller Körper, so raffiniert und poliert mit einer Reihe von ultrafeinen, seidigen Tanninen, die für Minuten dauert. Breit und umfassend mit einem langen Abgang. Anklänge von Muscheln, Eisen und Umami. Äußerst gut gemacht. Besser nach 2026.

Just about pure perfection and the finest wine I've tasted from this address, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all from a site just north of Dominus. This deep, inky hued beauty offers up a beautiful, full-bodied, richly textured, and incredibly concentrated style that carries ample black and blue fruit as well as notes of crushed stone, scorched earth, graphite, and lead pencil. It has the focused, structured style of the 2018 vintage and is going to benefit from 4-6 years (if not a decade) of bottle age and will be a 30+ year wine.

One of the wines of the vintage, as well as a legendary Napa Cabernet that will compete with anything out there, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals a deep purple hue as well as extraordinary notes of pure crème de cassis and blackberry-scented fruits intermixed with lots tobacco leaf, lead pencil, spice, and hints of flowers. Reminding me of the 2016 with its purity as well as its balance, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless texture, and a blockbuster of a finish. Based on 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, this is a wine you don’t want to miss! It’s going to take 7-8 years to hit its early drinking plateau and cruise for 30-40 years in cold cellars.

Clearly a stupendous effort but just far too young at this stage, Spottswoode's 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a concentrated, velvety core of black cherries, cassis and dusty loam, then supports it with hints of cedar and toasted oak. It's full-bodied, rich and youthfully intense, with a long, compelling finish that just won't quit. Give it a few more years, and it may indeed reach the perfection my predecessor predicted for it.
