The aromas of blackcurrants, fresh basil and thyme, as well as cedar and sandalwood are so attractive. It’s full-bodied and very linear with tight tannins that draw you down the length of this young wine. Wet-earth and cool-stone undertones. It’s solid and so structured. A classic Ornellaia for the cellar. Try after 2027.

This is a beautiful expression of coastal Tuscany and the sunny Mediterranean. The Ornellaia 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia (a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot) pours from the bottle with a specific darkness that has elements of both inky saturation and ruby highlights. The wine is saturated and rich—this is something you notice off the bat—but it also reveals a pleasing lightness or grace that is transmitted to both the bouquet and the palate. Dark fruit, pressed blackberry and plum mingle with more substantial aromas of spice, leather and sweetly cured tobacco. The tannins are beautifully managed, and the wine sports considerable heft and density on the palate that drives a very long and pleasurable mouthfeel.

The 2,000-case 2019 Ornellaia checks in as a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. It's a gorgeous wine in every facet, offering a translucent ruby hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of redcurrants, black cherries, tobacco, dried herbs, and loamy earth. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has remarkable purity as well as depth, spot-on balance, ripe, building, yet perfectly integrated tannins, and a great, great finish. This is a wonderfully complete, balanced, ripe yet elegant Ornellaia that will cruise for 30+ years in cold cellars.

Tasted from barrel, the 2020 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia will be presented in the fall but won’t hit the market until spring of the following year. This is a beauty, so generous and opulent with fully seamless transitions. The wine’s traditional blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with tiny percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, although this warm vintage makes due with a pinch less of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit is selected across 107 hectares of Ornellaia vines, although the estate recently purchased an additional eight hectares next to Guado al Tasso in Castagneto Carducci, with terraces and vines aged between 15 and 28 years old. This broad and generous expression has a beautiful quality of fruit and oak that speaks to the very best of Italian winemaking.

Januar 2023:
The 2020 Ornellaia is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, raised in 70% new French oak for 18 months, with another 12 months in bottle prior to release. Flush with herbs and menthol, blackberry, and cedar, it is full bodied and fills the sides of the mouth with rounded fruit of luxurious plum, black cherry, and toast, with supple and velvety tannins. Drink 2026-2046.

Erstmals seit 2011 ist der Merlotanteil wieder etwas höher, das Bukett entsprechend mehr von Herzkirschen geprägt, als vom üblich Cassis de Pauillac, zart nach Nougat und Karamell, feine Kräuterwürze. Kraftvoll, engmaschig, zeigt gute Süße, schokoladiger Touch, reife Tannine, große Komplexität, tolle Länge und Würze, eine sehr eigenständige Persönlichkeit, ein Riesenversprechen für die Zukunft, was sich En Primeur bereitsb angekündigtte: dieser Wein hat alles, was ein Weltklassewein braucht.

The aromas to this are really amazing, with a potpourri of spices and dried flowers, as well as redcurrants, sweet plums and even some peaches. Full-bodied with layers of ripe fruit and ultra-fine tannins that spread across the palate in an encompassing yet always elegant and pure way. It’s succulent and unadulterated. Like crushed, perfectly ripened grapes. The length is rather endless. The tannins build. Fabulous young red. 35% in amphora and the rest in 50% new oak and 15% one-year oak. 65% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot, the rest cabernet franc and petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. Try after 2028, but an absolute joy to taste now.

The 2019 Pontet-Canet was so effusive and generous en primeur. Today, though, it is quite reticent. That won't be an issue for those who can be patient, but patience indeed will be the key here. Dark red fleshed fruit, tobacco, cedar, spice, kirsch, mint and blood orange gradually open with a bit of coaxing. Imposing tannins wrap it all together. The 2019 is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty, but it needs time.

The 2019 Pontet Canet was picked from September 23 until October 10, finishing with the Petit Verdot, and bottled in mid-June/July. My sample, tasted at the property, was decanted. Matured in 50% new oak and 35% concrete amphora, this is endowed with an intense, enveloping bouquet of opulent blackberry and boysenberry fruit laced with crushed violet and light fig aromas, becoming more floral with aeration and revealing crushed violet petals. The palate is medium-bodied with layered black fruit, cracked black pepper, hints of pencil lead and a splash of soy. This is one of the most powerful Pauillac wines that I encountered this vintage, very juicy and with plenty of rondeur on the very spicy finish. This should give three decades of drinking pleasure.

Cassis, black cherries, lead pencil, and violet notes all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. The purity and finesse are truly something here, and while it already offers pleasure, it deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 20+ years.

Quite persistent in the mouth, yet accessible, this will be difficult to resist (but try). [One sample had a more briny finish than others.

Picked from September 12 to October 9 and matured in 60% new oak, it has a gorgeous, seductive bouquet of pure blackberry, bilberry, crushed iris petals and just a hint of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good cohesion and depth. The oak is seamlessly integrated on the finish, which lingers like a temptress. Two samples tasted, the second demonstrating a little more salinity on the aftertaste. This will be irresistible.

The black fruits burrow downwards through the palate at first. keeping things pretty closed. everything holding its breath. before the fruit opens. There is the precision of Rauzan Ségla that is reminiscent of the 2016. less of the immediate voluptuous impact of 2018 but the density becomes extremely clear in the glass. A serious Rauzan. cassis and cedar. still with a rinse of iris flowers to give it the Margaux touch. 3.73pH. 50/50 1st and 2nd wine. A yield of 42l/ha.

Das Weingut Philipp Kuhn, malerisch gleegen im pfälzischen Laumersheim, zählt seit Jahren zur Spitze im pfälzischen VDP, seine Auszeichnungen wie etwa "Weingut des Jahres 2023" im Eichelmann-Weinführer, "Kollektion des Jahres" in der Vinum und viele andere sprechen eine eindeutige Sprache: hier entstehen Spitzenweine!

Mineralische Noten verbinden sich mit einer dezent, feinen Pinotfrucht: Reife Birne, Walnuss, getrockneter Apfel und im Abgang ein Hauch von süßer Melone. Charmante Hefenoten nach Brioche ergeben ein perfektes Spiel von Ausgewogenheit und Charisma. Dennoch besitzt er diesen appetitanregenden Akzent Säure.

Der Clos Apalta 2021 umfasst 75% Carménére, der Rest von Cabernet Sauvignon und Merlot, bezogen sich auf den gleichnamigen Apalta Vineyard. Es wurde 24 Monate in Eichenfässern gereift, von denen zwei Drittel neu waren. Dieser dunkelviolette Wein offenbart nuancierte Aromen von Graphit, Kräutern, getrockneten Pflaumen und Brombeermmalade, ergänzt durch Minze, Boldo und Garrigue-ähnliche Noten über einer grünen Paprikaschicht. Weinberge mit Granitgestein in den Hügeln und ältere Rebstöcke aus dem Jahr 1907 in der Ebene. Beim Öffnen des Weines wird man von einer würzigen Note begrüßt. Er ist zunächst zurückhaltend, mit sorgfältig aufgebauten, dichten Früchten von schwarzen Johannisbeeren und schwarzen Kirschen, tief gefärbt, mit Kakao bestäubt, und öffnet sich, um Rosenknospen und Flieder zu zeigen, mit einem Hauch von Paprika und Cayennepfeffer. From 50+-year-old vines, the dark golden-orange 2020 Jaspis Grauer Burgunder Würmelin shows a deep, clear, refined, very elegant and balanced nose of ripe fruits and finely milled chalk. Rich and round yet also dry, fresh and saline on the palate, this is a full-bodied, powerful yet pure and refreshing mineral Pinot Gris with lingering salinity and fine, chalky tannins. The finish is clear and fresh and reveals stimulating lime-zest grip. It's a fascinating wine that is probably Ziereisen's finest wine in years. 13% stated alcohol. Premium natural cork stopper. Tasted in November 2022.

Auf Böden welche aus Jurakalk und einer Lössauflage bestehen. wachsen die Grauburgunderreben heran. Die Reben für den Jaspis Grauen Burgunder haben die Rebstöcke ein stolzes Alter von 50 Jahren erreicht. Nach der Lese von Hand werden die Trauben traditionell auf einer alten Korbpresse gepresst um anschliessend im traditionellen 450L Fass der Aßmann Manufaktur mit wilden Hefen vergoren. Die Reifung im Fass erfolgt über 18 bis 22 Monate. Bei den Ziereisens werden die Weine oft ohne Filtration abgefüllt, ein kleines Depot ist somit eine natürliche Erscheinung. So auch beim Jaspis Grauer Burgunder Wuermlin. Bitte geben Sie diesem Wein eine gewisse Zeit in der Karaffe und geniessen Sie ihn nicht zu kalt.
