am südlichen Ortsausgang von Vosne, liegt die 1er Cru Parzelle Les Chaumes. Die Böden sind hier etwas tiefer, lehmiger und mit einer guten Wasserversorgung ausgestatt. Dazu kommt die recht sonnenexponierte Ausrichtung, so dass es sich beim 1er Cru Vosne-Romanée um eine recht frühe Lage handelt. Die Weine sind auch schon in ihrer Jugend erstaunlich zugänglich, wehren sich aber nicht gegen eine Portion Flaschenreife. Seine Finesse ist außergewöhnlich und diesem erhabenen Terroir würdig. Klassisch trotz außergewöhnlicher Umstände

Denn die außergewöhnlich hohen Temperaturen im Februar und März ermöglichten einen schnellen Start der Reben. Diese waren daher besonders anfällig, als Anfang April die Kälte zurückkehrte ... Die Schäden waren größer als 2016: Sie waren unterschiedlich stark, aber weit verbreitet, und einige Appellationen waren stark betroffen. Der Rest der Saison verläuft holprig: Ein regnerischer Mai, ein Juni mit sommerliche Bedingungen, im Juli dann wieder Stürme und Regenfälle. Die schönen Sommermonate im August und September ermöglichten es den Trauben jedoch, zu reifen, wenn auch mit einigen Warnhinweisen: Der Krankheitsdruck nahm zu ...

Das Bouquet des Domaine Meo Camuzet Bourgogne Cote-d-Or Hemisphere Sud AC 2021 ist eher dezent, dafür aber raffiniert und von Waldfrüchten getragen. Eine sortentypische Note, pfeffrig und würzig. Am Gaumen folgt ein geschmeidiger Auftakt. Die festen Tannine liefern eine Textur mit gewissen Ecken und Kanten. Die Säure ist präsent, aber Dank seiner Fülle ist der Wein dennoch extrem zugänglich.

Der ganze Zauber der Bourgogne in einem Village konzentriert

So hatte der burgundische Schriftsteller Gaston Roupnel die Gegend um Vosne-Romanée, frei übersetzt, umschrieben. In der 1936 eingerichteten Village-Appellation grenzen viele ihrer Weingärten dann auch an die ganz großen Namen aus der Riege der Grand Crus: Romanée-Conti, Romanée Saint-Vivant, La Romanée, La Tâche, La Grande Rue, Richebourg. Ausgerichtet nach Osten, findet man hier Kalkstein, der mit tonhaltigem Mergel vermischt ist, in einer Tiefe, die zwischen einigen Dutzend Zentimetern und einem Meter variiert.

Der Domaine Meo Camuzet 2022 AOC Vosne-Romanee zeigt sich als typischer Vertreter der Appellation. Struktur und Fülle werden durch Finesse und Mineralität ausgeglichen. Erdbeeren und Himbeeren, Heidelbeeren und schwarzen Johannisbeeren bilden gemeinsam mit einer würzigen. Grundlage das Bouquet. Mit zuhemender Flaschenreife dann Aromen Weinbrandkirsche, Konfitüre, Leder und Wildbret. Am Gaumen samtig und vornehm, hier findet man die Fülle eines Pinot Noir der hohen Schule.

One of the greatest wines produced in Bordeaux this year is the 2019 Lafite Rothschild, an impeccably balanced classic of immense charm and grace. 21 Jan, 2022 – This is incredibly complex, with all the cabernet descriptors, from mint and lead pencil to blackberry, blackcurrant and menthol. It changes all the time in the glass, just as in the nose. Yet, it remains cool and classy. Full-bodied with very fine, tight tannins that run the length of the wine, carrying on and on and on. Well-framed and compact wine. Never-ending procession of currant, berry and black cherry fruit, together with licorice, earth and just a hint of black truffle. 90% cabernet sauvignon, 9% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Give this until 2028 to show its true greatness.

The 2019 Château Mouton Rothschild is based on 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, and it hit a relatively normal alcohol level of 13.5%, which is higher than the 2009 and shows the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon in the vintage. It shows the new, modern style of Bordeaux in its purity, elegance, and finesse while still being an incredibly concentrated Pauillac, and where some vintages of Mouton can just about jump out of the glass, this is a more seamless, streamlined, elegant beauty that builds with time in the glass and is just about impossible to fault. Gorgeous crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, forest floor, licorice, damp earth, and graphite, as well as some espresso nuances, emerge on the nose, and it's rich, medium to full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is pure haute couture in Bordeaux that unquestionably offers pleasure today (again, just about all modern Bordeaux from a great vintage offer pleasure in their youth) but will require a solid decade to hit maturity, and it should evolve for 20, 30, 40 years or more. This is not an unformed beast of wine that demands bottle age, and I suspect it will have a broad, forgiving drink window that consumers will love.

The 2019 Mouton Rothschild is the most dramatic of the Médoc first growths, soaring from the glass with aromas of cassis, blackberries and violets mingled with rich aromas of cedar, cigar wrapper, licorice, loamy soil and spices. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's deep and powerful, with huge levels of concentration and an ineffably complete, seamless profile, concluding with a long, resonant finish. Plenty of ripe tannin is hidden by its ample core of fruit, and despite its youthful polish, this will require plenty of bottle age to realize all its potential. This blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot tastes in many respects like the 2016 Mouton's more sun-kissed cousin.

The 2020 Angélus has turned out superbly and underlines this estate's continuing shift to a more elegant, integrated style that offers a purer expression of its terroir. A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, it unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, rose petals, mint and subtle hints of licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, beautifully layered and vibrant palate that's deep, precise and penetrating, concluding with a mouthwateringly chalky finish. Some 120 hectoliters of Cabernet Franc, amounting to around 20% of the blend, were matured in foudre this year, which no doubt helps to account for the significantly reduced oak impact in the 2020.

The 2019 Palmer was always going to be stylistically a completely different kettle of fish than the preceding vintage. It was bottled in early August 2021. As winemaker Thomas Duroux foretold, it’s a much more classically styled Palmer, offering blackberry, briary and pressed iris petals scents rather than violet, along with a distinct marine influence; a touch of sea spray comes through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, tightly knit on the entry, and very fresh and saline, with just a very slight bitter edginess toward the almost Côte de Nuits–like finish (especially returning to my glass after 20 minutes). Quintessential Palmer, this will require 4–6 years in bottle.

The 2019 Palmer is a rich, dramatic wine that soars from the glass with aromas of cherries, blackberries and berry fruit liqueur mingled with notions of violets, rose petals and sweet spices. The grand vin represents 50% of the crop this year. The medium-bodied palate is beautifully crafted with its seamless freshness and firm, grainy tannins supporting the compelling, finely knit black fruits and savory nuances, finishing on a lingering fragrant-earth note. This will need a good 5 years to come around and should easily cellar for another 30 years or more.

The 2018 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande is a monster of a wine with an almost Château Latour-like stature and structure, offering deep, backward, slightly reductive notes of blackcurrants, crushed stone, scorched earth, lead pencil shavings, and tobacco leaf. Based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon mixed with 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, it's full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful on the palate, with masses of tannins, beautiful mid-palate density, and a great finish. As I've commented previously, the up-front, sexy style of the past (due to the larger Merlot content, I believe) has been replaced by a more regal, at times austere profile. Nevertheless, it's still its own wine and very Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in style. This 2018 is going to need 5-7 years of bottle age and will evolve for 40+ years.

Der 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 stammt aus Coonawarra, Barossa Valley und Wrattonbully und reift 16 Monate lang in amerikanischen Eichenfässern (100% neu). In der Nase zeigt sich der Wein aromatisch zurückhaltend, aber im Mund entfalten die Tannine (und dann die Früchte) ihre volle Kraft. Dies ist ein kraftvoller Wein, der, um ehrlich zu sein, bei seiner Veröffentlichung wenig Freude bereitet. Der klare Vorbehalt, den ich an dieser Stelle betonen möchte, ist, dass alter Bin 707 – wir sprechen von 20 oder 30 Jahren – ein anmutiger, kraftvoller, aufregender Wein ist. Und 2021 war ein wunderschönes Jahr: lange, kühle und gleichmäßige Wachstumsbedingungen, sodass die in diesem Jahr produzierten Weine (insbesondere aus Südaustralien) elegant und ausgewogen sind. Die Frucht hier spricht von ihren Jahrgangsursprüngen; jedoch bleibt das Eichenholz zu diesem frühen Zeitpunkt ein großer Teil der Geschichte. Ich liebe diesen Wein einfach, so eingebettet und jung, aber sein Potenzial ist klar erkennbar. Er nimmt das Herz des Cabernet Sauvignon und destilliert es, intensiviert es, wickelt das Minzblatt und die Lakritze ein und hebt es auf ein Bett aus gemessener Säure und purem Cassis. Feine Tannine - es gibt viele davon, aber man spürt sie kaum. Nicht geklärt und nicht filtriert. Ein Jahrgang mit kleinen Beeren und dicken Schalen, daher haben sie die Mazerationszeit verkürzt, um den Schwerpunkt auf diese Reinheit des Ausdrucks zu legen. Es gab keinen Bin 707 oder 169 im Jahr 2020 wegen der Waldbrände, daher ist dies der erste in zwei Jahren. 100% neue amerikanische Eiche, im Fass vergoren. Peter Gago Chefwinzer.

Dies ist ein sehr feiner 707. Oft etwas schwerfällig, aber dieser ist raffinierter, als ich ihn in Erinnerung habe. Tannine wie eine Gewehrmündung mit einem Hauch von stählernem Willen. Wie ein Film aus legierten Kugellagern, der über den großzügig gewichteten Gaumen rollt und dabei Jod, Kräuterstrauß, eine Spur Tapenade und Cassis an den richtigen Stellen liefert. Reich und kraftvoll, aber gleichzeitig detailliert und herzhaft. Die Saftigkeit der Frucht überwindet mühelos das Übermaß an Eichenholz und verheißt eine sehr vielversprechende Zukunft. Ein wunderbarer Wein in der Entstehung. Am besten nach 2027.
