The 2016 Sérilhan has a wonderful. quite high-toned and generous bouquet with ample blackberry and raspberry scents laced with violet and hints of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip in the mouth. quite symmetrical and focused with impressive precision on the finish. This feels dialed back in terms of power to the benefit of this elegant Saint-Estèphe. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

The 2016 Serilhan is a treat. It has a gorgeous. beautifully defined bouquet with blackberry. cigar box and smoky aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent black and red fruit. very fine tannin. a veneer of quality new oak but with more than sufficient fruit underneath and a long sensual finish. Utterly seductive. this is a temptress from Saint Estèphe!

Zweifellos einer der 2-3 besten Weine des Jahrgangs, der 2016 Château Montrose ist ein Monument im Entstehen. Mit einer Mischung aus 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot und 7% Cabernet Franc, gereift in 60% neuen französischen Eichenfässern (der Rest in einmal gebrauchten Fässern) und repräsentiert nur winzige 36% der Produktion. Dieser tief violettfarbene 2016er besitzt kraftvolle, unglaublich klassische Saint-Estèphe-Noten von Crème de Cassis, Graphit, feuchter Erde, Bleistiftspänen und glimmenden Kohlen. Mit einem kraftvollen, vollmundigen Stil am Gaumen, einem riesigen mittleren Gaumen, viel zugrunde liegender Struktur und tanninhaltigem Griff und perfekter Balance wird dieser magische Wein mindestens ein Jahrzehnt Lagerung benötigen und 40-50 Jahre halten.

Tiefes Granat-Purpur in der Farbe. Der 2016er Montrose ist anfangs etwas zurückhaltend, aber mit etwas Geduld entfaltet er die verführerischsten Düfte von verwelkten Rosen, Oolong-Tee, zerkleinerten Steinen, wildem Salbei, Sternanis und kandierten Veilchen über einem wunderbar reinen, gut definierten Kern aus zerdrückten schwarzen Johannisbeeren, schwarzen Himbeeren und Kirschlikör plus einem Hauch von Bleistiftspänen und Holzrauch. Der straffe, muskulöse, mittel- bis vollmundige Gaumen vereint überwältigende Intensität und Finesse hervorragend, mit einer soliden Struktur aus reifen Tanninen und einem festen Rahmen bis zum unglaublich langen, exquisit nuancierten Abgang.

Der 2016er Montrose hat ein straff gewundenes Bouquet, das extrem gut fokussiert ist. Dies ist eines der detailliertesten Aromas, die ich bei einem Montrose in diesem Stadium erinnern kann, mit Brombeeren, Boysenbeeren und Zeder sowie einer echten Mineralität darunter. Der Gaumen ist mittelkräftig mit feiner Dichte und wunderbarer Salzigkeit. Es gibt eine enorme Präzision mit messerscharfen Tanninen und eine Helligkeit im Abgang, die außergewöhnlich ist. Dies ist ein Montrose, der sich problemlos neben den großen Jahrgängen dieses Saint-Estèphe-Anwesens einreihen wird. Wie meine Bewertung andeutet, steht er den Premier Crus in nichts nach. Atemberaubend.

Die floralen und frischen Aromen dieses Weins sind faszinierend. Rosen und Flieder in Hülle und Fülle. Die reinen Cabernet-Aromen, die aus dem Glas strömen – schwarze Johannisbeeren und Brombeeren – sind so einprägsam. Vollmundig, tief und bedeutend. Die ultrafeinen Tannine am Gaumen sind so poliert und fein. Der Abgang dauert Minuten mit subtilen, aber hervorragenden Früchten. Hier geht es ganz um Präzision und Form. Ein moderner Klassiker für Montrose. Besser nach 2026.

Der 2016er Montrose ist ebenso beeindruckend wie aus dem Fass, vielleicht sogar noch mehr. Straff gewunden und vertikal, mit bemerkenswerter Intensität, ist der 2016er einfach großartig. Die Tannine sind da, aber sie sind fast von der schieren Intensität der Frucht begraben. Alle Elemente sind in einem Wein von Herkunft, Tiefe und Charakter perfekt ausbalanciert. Der 2016er wird einige Jahre benötigen, um sein Bestes zu erreichen, aber er ist eindeutig ein sehr besonderer Wein im Entstehen. Mit einem Wort: umwerfend.

The 2016 Calon Ségur is dense and radiant on the palate. just as it was from barrel. Even with all of its intensity. the 2016 is distinguished by its sense of freshness. lift and nuance. much of which comes from the 18% Cabernet Franc in the blend. Sweet floral. spice and minty notes add aromatic intensity to a core of sweet red cherry and plum fruit. There is plenty of underlying structure. but the tannins are sweet. silky and perfectly ripe. In short. the 2016 Calon Ségur is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Technical Director Vincent Millet and his team did a tremendous job with the 2016. Tasted three times.

The 2016 Calon Ségur was matured entirely in new oak for 20 months and bottled at the end of July 2018. This was one of the most impressive wines from the estate when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle. it has a gorgeous bouquet of beautifully defined blackberry. bilberry. dark chocolate and graphite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. perhaps suppler than Cos d’Estournel and more velvety in terms of texture. A dash of cracked black pepper and allspice appears toward the finish. which fans out gloriously. A brilliant wine from François Millet and his team.

Die Cuvee für den Jahrgang 2018 besteht aus 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot und 18% Petit Verdot. Volle Konzentration mit leichter Aufhellung. Die Nase ist sehr betörend und verführerisch. reife Frucht. süssliche Würze. geröstete Nüsse. Sahnemokka. Am Gaumen super balanciert. dennoch stoffig und kompakt. überhaupt nicht anstrengend. Sehr sauberes und langes Finale. Für uns klar über 2014.2015 aber nicht an den Best Ever Meyney 2016. welchen wir noch vor der Primeurwoche im Glas hatten. da fehlt einfach ein gutes Stück.

TThis estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn't have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential.
