Huge on the palate. with tremendous depth and exceptional balance. Saint-Pierre is once again one of the Sleeper wines of the Left Bank. Don't miss it. Tasted two times.

This is fantastic. offering lots of fresh tobacco and blackcurrants and undertones of hazelnuts and chocolate. Full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins. yet ever so polished and refined. One of the most structured St. Pierre’s in years. A blend of 73 per cent cabernet sauvignon. 21 per cent merlot and six per cent cabernet franc. Try from 2024.

The 2016 Chateau Saint-Pierre is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon. 21% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc picked between 29 September and 3 October for the Merlot and 5-17 October for the Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is matured is 50% new oak. The Cabernet comes through strongly on the nose as you would expect: quite intense black fruit. graphite and just a touch of dried herbs. There is lovely definition and focus on display. The palate is well balanced with grainy tannin. a crisp line of acidity. classic in style in keeping with the style of the vintage with very fine mineralité and tension towards the sprightly finish. It is one of the most Pauillac-like Château Saint-Pierres that I have tasted. a very well crafted. almost understated but sophisticated wine that will age for 20 to 30 years. This is a fantastic Saint Julien that may well rest at the top of my banded score.

This is an utterly seductive Margaux. one of the finest in recent years as this estate continues its upsurge in quality. Few 2016s will dole out such inhibited pleasure.

Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. Hints of iron. smoke. cedar. tobacco and scorched earth add nuance. but it is the wine's sense of poise that is most remarkable. I loved it. Tasted three times.

The 2016 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a powerful. exciting wine. That is the good news. But readers are going to have to be patient. as the 2016 shows very little of the upfront appeal that was so evident when it was in barrel. In the glass. the 2016 is sumptuous. vivid and incredibly detailed. with generous super-ripe red fruit and floral notes that develop with time. The wine's concentration and vibrancy lead me to think it will enjoy a very long life. Wow!

The palate is so seamless. It builds beautifully and delivers a long. seamless array of perfectly ripe dark fruit. swathed in fine. firm. ascending layers of tannins. As good as we have seen in recent vintages. this is a star of the vintage. Try from 2024.

There is wonderful structure and focus on the finish. followed by a persistent saline aftertaste. This is an outstanding Lynch-Bages. easily the best since the twin titans of 1989 and 1990.

Eine Sensation in Flaschen - Eine grosse Überraschung bei unserer Verkostung am 07.11.2018 in Zürich im Dolder Grand auf der UGCB Verkostung des Jahrgangs 2016. Chateau Durfort Vivens 2016 Margaux, mann könnte es mit der Liebe auf den ersten Schluck beschreiben. Die bis dato höchste Intensität des Cabernet in diesem Wein, 94% purer Cabernet und deren wolllüstige Cassisfrucht die einem geradeaus ins Gesicht springt. Dann im Mund fängt der Wein an zu rocken, er ist wild und ungestüm und dennoch hat er eine so tolle Balance, man ist schier sprachlos. Wie geht das in so einem Wein. Der 2016er wird mir immer im Gedächtnis bleiben. Was danach folgte ist eine Elexiervariante mit dem 2018er. Diese Miniproduktion und dann gefolgt von gleich drei Traumjahren (2019,2020 UND 2021!) für diesen Wein, jeder Jahrgang einfach auf seine ganz spezielle Art und Weise eigenständig.

As outstanding as Pichon Baron is. the 2016 gives the impression it is playing things safe. It would be nice to see a little more daring and risk.

Espresso and cedar. as well as a slate-like. stony mineral edge add complexity. The palate has incredible depth. drive and detail. Fine and plush tannins stretch the palate in every direction. So fresh and vivacious. this is the greatest Pichon Baron since 1989 and has a long future. Try from 2024.

The 2016 Pichon-Longueville Baron electrifies the olfactory sense with a stunning bouquet of intense blackberry. cedar and graphite aromas that are quintessential Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly tarry black fruit. cedar and truffle. dovetailing into a saline. peppery finish that leaves the tongue tingling. Reminding me of the 2010 with its incredible stature and class (as opposed to the more opulently styled 2009), the 2016 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a legendary wine from the genius of Bruno Borie, who has managed this estate brilliantly since he arrived in 2003. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot brought up all in new oak, the 2016 has a mammoth bouquet of crème de cassis, espresso, camphor, crushed violets, toasty oak, and graphite. Full-bodied, concentrated, and backward on the palate, it nevertheless has perfectly integrated acidity and building tannins, a concentrated, layered texture, off-the-charts purity of fruit, and a finish that won't quit. Give this powerful, concentrated wine a solid 7-8 years of bottle age and enjoy it over the following 50 years or more.

The 2016 Ducru-Beaucaillou. bottled in August 2018. is very deep in color. It has a tightly wound bouquet of blackberry. boysenberry and minerals and a faint estuarine tang of oyster shells. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin. layers of pure blackberry and wild strawberry. and veins of blue fruit tinged with a conspicuous graphite note that becomes more pronounced with aeration. This is almost a Pauillac-like Ducru-Beaucaillou. quite noble and blue-blooded. A wine that should give 40 to 50 years of drinking pleasure.

The purity of cabernet sauvignon really comes through here with currants. blackberries and stones. Perfumed. too. Medium to full body. Very fine. polished tannins and a fresh. fruity finish. This shows a compact palate with a polished. creamy finish. Much higher percentage of cabernet than is usual. Drink after 2023.

Léoville-Barton is one of the very few wines. from any appellation. that combines power and finesse with such grace in 2017. Rich. deep and wonderfully expressive. the 2017 has so much offer. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon comes through loud and clear. Inky dark. fruit. game. spice. mint. licorice and lavender all build in a wine of regal elegance and head spinning beauty. For its combination of quality and price. Léoville-Barton remains one the most consumer-friendly wines of the Left Bank. The blend is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The September rains were especially challenging for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc. As a result. Cabernet is pushed up in the blend. while there is no Franc at all.

There is lovely definition throughout. but readers will have to be patient to catch the 2016 at its very best. Hints of leather. smoke. tobacco and dried flowers begin to open up in the glass. but the 2016 is quite reticent at this stage. In two tastings I found the 2016 unusually closed. Needless to say. it will be interesting to see what time brings.

The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin. grippy in the mouth. and quite voluminous. with perhaps more density on the solid. almost broad-shouldered finish compared to the Clerc-Milon. This fulfills all my expectations from my barrel tasting and is quite simply one of the best d’Armailhac wines ever made.

Time in the glass brings out additional layers of nuance that complete the wine nicely.

Der Othello ist noch relativ jung auf dem Internationalen Markt. der Othello wird seit dem Jahrgang 2006 produziert. ursprünglich auf dem Asiatischen Markt vermarktet. wird er nun auch bei uns viel Freude bereiten. Der 2012er Othello ist der erste Jahrgang der auch auf dem Euroäischen Markt verfügbar ist.
