The 2016 Le Gay is terrific. Rich. explosive and vertical in feel. the 2016 is a wine of pedigree and real class. Inky blue and purplish fruit. licorice. lavender all race across the palate. From bottle. Le Gay is more a wine of subtlety and vibrancy than pure power. As good as it is. my impression today is that the fruit is a bit dried out. I liked the 2016 more from barrel.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored. the 2016 Le Gay has a rock star nose of flamboyant Black Forest cake. crushed redcurrants and lilacs scents with underlying nuances of yeast extract. wood smoke. iron ore and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied. the palate truly struts its stuff with generous black and red fruits and a fantastic line of super ripe tannins. building to a very long. seductively perfumed finish.

The 2016 Le Gay is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc cropped at 27 hectoliters per hectare between 27 September and 14 October. matured in 100% new oak. The nose handles the new oak in stride with very pure. almost Côtes de Nuits-like red cherry and strawberry fruit. a patina of vanilla emanating from the wood. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with black cherry and blueberry fruit. a fine line of acidity. very polished in style with a gentle grip on the finish. Le Gay hit the high spots in the previous two vintages. I am not sure if in 2016 it quite reaches those levels. although it is still a sensual wine that should age with style over the next 15-20 years.

Im Gaumen fest. stoffig. noch fein aufrauhend. da ist viel Material drin. nicht unbescheiden in seiner Extraktion. Ich hätte weniger Kraft und mehr Saft erwartet. Das Potential ist aber beeindruckend. Also; let's see in 10 years.

The palate has polished. lustrous appeal. and dark plums and ripe blueberry flavors abound. Long. deep-set tannins with incredible depth. This has x-factor depth and elegance. Best from 2025.

The full-bodied palate is absolutely laden with taut. muscular black and blue fruits. with a solid frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness. finishing with languidly lingering licorice and spice flavors. Incredibly seductive and just plain delicious right now. hedonists can enjoy this captivating wine while it’s relatively young. while traditionalists can wait ten years and drink it over the next 25 years or more.

The 2015 Vieux Château Certan is every bit as magnificent from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich. sumptuous and explosive in the glass. the 2015 is pure class. The flavors are deep and boldly sketched in this sumptuous. spectacularly ripe Pomerol. Inky blue/purplish fruit. spice. lavender. licorice and menthol all develop in the glass. but it is the wine's textural richness and intensity that stand out most. As good as the 2015 is today. it is going to need at least 15-20 years to be at its very best. Is there anything more I can ask of the 2015? No. there is not. This is a tremendous showing.

The 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan was bottled in mid-May as usual. This was one of the wines of the vintage out of barrel. and now it has a compelling bouquet with blackberry. smoke and iris. There is wonderful delineation here. a cerebral bouquet that is quite mercurial in the glass. traces of black truffle emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and just a killer line of acidity. a Vieux Chateau Certan surfeit with energy and joie de vivre. It fans out in glorious. almost swaggering fashion with truffle and white pepper. a touch of truffle on the persistent finish. This is clearly destined to be one among the canon of legendary wines from the estate although it does deserve requisite cellaring. This is one of the wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2025 - 2055.

The 2016 La Conseillante is a brilliant wine from the team led by Technical Director Marielle Cazaux. Polished and sophisticated. the 2016 possesses stunning vertical lift. with soaring aromatics that make a strong first impression. Silky and seductive on the palate. the 2016 is all about precision and energy in the early going. It is also one of the most quite. soft-spoken Pomerols of the vintage. Hints of blackberry. lavender. licorice and spice add nuance. but in 2016 La Conseillante stands out for its sublime balance and total sense of harmony. The 2016 spent 17 months in oak. 70% new. As gorgeous as the 2016 is. my impression is that the best is yet to come. Since arriving at La Conseillante. Cazaux has changed much in the farming of the property. including introducing cover crops and limiting yields. She also now works with no sulfites in winemaking and opts for lower temperatures in fermentation. In other words. the full results of all of that work is yet to be seen. For now. though. the 2016 Conseillante is a pretty special wine. Don't miss it. Tasted two times.

The aromas of violets and dark berries with licorice and sweet black tea are so attractive. What really impresses is the sweet fruit in the dense middle palate. So attractive. At the same time. there’s plenty of plush and ripe tannins that give the wine form and brightness. And it still remains bright on the finish. as the tannins roll on. A great Conseillante. Try after 2024.
