But this did not prevent Stephen Carrier and his team from making a fresh and energetic 2022 de Fieuzal, bursting with aromas of violet, iris, menthol and crunchy wild berries mingled with hints of coniferous forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, it's pristinely balanced and beautifully layered, exhibiting a vibrant palate that's deep, tensile and elegant, concluding with a mouthwateringly mineral finish. This estate is achieving things no one would have thought possible a decade ago.

There is a symmetry, and vibrancy in the fruits, finishing with a shot of licorice, cocoa, and plums that stick with you. The wine blends 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. 13.2% ABV. Yields were 32 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2025-2045.

Owner Pierre Lurton commented, “We have a lot of chalk and clay at Marjosse, so we never have a problem with freshness. We recently bought a small plot of Cabernet Franc, which did very well. It was a long harvest starting on 5th September and ending at the beginning of October. We had to go very light on the extraction and we couldn't use any of the press juice because it was too powerful.” The wine has a deep garnet-purple color and shoots from the glass with energetic notes of fresh, juicy blackberries, warm plums, and kirsch, followed by hints of cardamom, dusty soil, and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate is coated with bright, expressive black fruits, supported by a lively backbone and plush, velvety tannins, finishing long, with a spicy lift. Well placed to succeed in these hot, dry vintages and with a good proportion of very old vines, which tend to handle these climatic conditions very well, this is likely to be one of the best bargains of the vintage.

I loved the 2022 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this check in near the 2020, although it's in a riper, more sexy style. Cassis, plums, chocolate, and earthy notes all emerge from this full-bodied Graves that has an expansive, layered mouthfeel, ripe, velvety tannins, and solid mid-palate density. It's going to benefit from just a few years of bottle age. The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Merlot, resting in 50% new oak, with a small amount in amphora.

The wine is made from 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc and 18% Merlot. 14% ABV, 3.71 pH. Yields were 40 hectoliters. 38% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. Picking took place September 6 - September 28. It is interesting to note that Larrivet was the first known wine of the 2022 futures campaign to be offered, and it was priced at a discount to 2021! Die Nase ist in diesem Jahr wieder eine Nuance feiner, noch weniger Schwarzfruchtig, aber im Kern steht eine schwarze süsse Kirsche, begleitet von guter Würze die vom Cabernet Franc kommen wird, eine Kühle begleitet das Nasenbild und macht den Wein tiefgründig und sehr interessant. Man kann den Kalkstein riechen der dem Wein in diesem Jahrgang seinen Character gibt. Im Mund ist der Wein dann wie gewohnt mit tollem Extrakt, einer sehnig - fleischigen Art. Sein Tannin ist wunderbar tragend im langen Mundgefühl. Im Nachgeschmack trumpft dann wieder der Cab. Franc auf, einfach faszinierend diese kühle zart würzige Art. Das wird sehr gut reifen, wobei ich glaube, dass es auch viele Fans für den frühen Genuss geben wird.
