The 2016 Malescot Saint Exupéry is fabulous. Powerful and explosive on the palate. the 2016 offers serious intensity. but it also appears to be holding back quite a bit of its potential. Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. Hints of iron. smoke. cedar. tobacco and scorched earth add nuance. but it is the wine's sense of poise that is most remarkable. I loved it. Tasted three times.

Eine Sensation in Flaschen - Eine grosse Überraschung bei unserer Verkostung am 07.11.2018 in Zürich im Dolder Grand auf der UGCB Verkostung des Jahrgangs 2016. Chateau Durfort Vivens 2016 Margaux, mann könnte es mit der Liebe auf den ersten Schluck beschreiben. Die bis dato höchste Intensität des Cabernet in diesem Wein, 94% purer Cabernet und deren wolllüstige Cassisfrucht die einem geradeaus ins Gesicht springt. Dann im Mund fängt der Wein an zu rocken, er ist wild und ungestüm und dennoch hat er eine so tolle Balance, man ist schier sprachlos. Wie geht das in so einem Wein. Der 2016er wird mir immer im Gedächtnis bleiben. Was danach folgte ist eine Elexiervariante mit dem 2018er. Diese Miniproduktion und dann gefolgt von gleich drei Traumjahren (2019,2020 UND 2021!) für diesen Wein, jeder Jahrgang einfach auf seine ganz spezielle Art und Weise eigenständig.

Bitte kaufen Sie sich einmal eine Flasche von diesen Weinen die hier auf Durfort Vivens produziert werden, Sie werden es nicht bereuen.

The 2016 is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. maybe even more! Tasted three times.

The palate is medium-bodied. very pure and supple. displaying wonderful balance and a satiny texture that belongs in a lingerie shop. This is an utterly seductive Margaux. one of the finest in recent years as this estate continues its upsurge in quality. Few 2016s will dole out such inhibited pleasure.

Der 2016er La Fortune besteht aus 58% Cabernet Sauvignon und 42% Merlot. Für mich ist dieser Wein eine kleine Sensation. Die Entdeckung machte ich auf einer Weinmesse, hier wo man wie ein kleines Trüffelschwein von Stand zu stand schlendert und auf eine AHA-Erlebnis im Glas lauert. Dieses Erlebnis stellte sich zum Glück beim La Fortune 2016 ein, gerade noch rechtzeitig um auch direkt eine kleine Menge des 2019 zu sichern. Der Geschmack ist für mich etwas untypisch Margaux, denn man hat in der Nase zwar diese satte dunkle Fruchtaromatik von Kirsche, Waldbeeren und auch florale Anklänge, aber was dem Wein so eine zusätzliche Komponente verleiht ist dieser Schoko und geröstete Nüsse Touch, nicht nur in der Nase!

Auch am Gaumen spielt er seine Reize voll aus, die Fruch ist sehr schön präsent und die Tannine sind stützend, seine feingliedrige Säure vermählt sich schön mit einer steinigen Mineralität. Der Wein ist nicht überladen aber er lässt auch nichts vermissen, tolle Neuentdeckung und wir freuen uns von nun an immer auf ein paar wenige Flaschen dieses Weins, denn die Produktion ist nie sehr gross. Gerne verleihe ich diesem Wein 93 Punkte und finde das gebotenen Preis Genussverhältnis sehr ansprechend.

Für mich ist dieser Wein eine kleine Sensation. Der 2019er La Dame de Montrose, den ich im Juni und September 2021 verkostet habe, hat ein frisches Bouquet von Maulbeeren, schwarzen Pflaumen und granitbedingter Frische, das ziemlich frühreif ist; im Hintergrund erscheinen Noten von Morcheln. Der Gaumen ist mittelkräftig mit feinkörnigen Tanninen, ziemlich strukturiert und fast Pauillac-artig, dank Adern von Graphit zum Finish hin, die durch die 48% Cabernet Sauvignon beigesteuert werden. Salziger Nachgeschmack, wenn auch nicht übermäßig lang, dies ist ein sehr vielversprechender Zweitwein.

The Mangot 2019 Todeschini Distique 12 is a special cuvée that celebrates the 12 years (and counting) that the Todeschini brothers have been working together at this estate and which blends 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver a more structured, concentrated wine than the regular Mangot blend. Exhibiting aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, violets and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and lively, with a deep core of fruit that's framed by fine, powdery tannins. Black cherry, plum, new leather, graphite and incense build as this flamboyant, opulent Saint-Estèphe shows off its considerable allure. The 2019 is a big wine, but the 15.1% alcohol is not especially evident.

The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly lactic entry and fine acidity, maybe not quite as "crunchy" as I recall, yet still satisfyingly persistent.

Full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with an enveloping core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it's a strong effort in a crowd-pleasing style.

TThis estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn't have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

The 2019 Tour Saint Christophe builds on the promise it showed from barrel. This sample was actually tasted at my home, where I afforded it a two-hour decant. It revealed precocious yet controlled blackberry and blueberry fruit scents, with that violet component still intact. The tannins have not lost any of their grippiness or assertiveness. This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential.
