The 2020 Château Cantemerle is deeply hued with lots of Bing cherry, tobacco, and cedary notes that flow to a medium-bodied, elegant, yet concentrated 2020 with fine tannins and a great finish. Another classic vintage from this estate, this beauty is going to evolve for 15+ years if well-stored.

Hopefully this will develop more personality and race by the time of bottling, but given the potential of this fine estate, I was expecting more.

The medium-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy black fruits with a firm, grainy frame and plenty of freshness, finishing long and lively. This is seriously impressive Cabernet, punching well above its weight!

Chateau Senejac 2020 Haut Medoc

Der Chateau Senejac 2020 aus dem Haut Medoc ist eine Allemblage aus 54 Cabernet Sauvignon, 34 Merlot , 6 Cabernet Franc und 6 Petit Verdot. Der 2020er ist ein bemerkenswerter Wein, der die Kritiker mit seiner Vielschichtigkeit und Ausgewogenheit beeindruckt.

Jeff Leve von The Wine Cellar Insider vergibt 91 Punkte und beschreibt Aromen von Kirschen, Johannisbeeren und Kakao, die sich in der Nase sowie im Kern des Weins zeigen. Er lobt seinen mittleren Körper, seine Weichheit und Lebendigkeit. Leve erwähnt auch eine subtile Note von Kreide und Eiche, die im Mittelteil und im fruchtigen Nachgeschmack zum Ausdruck kommen. Der mittelkräftige Körper, etwas schlanker als andere, zeigt eine frische, klare Struktur und endet mit einem erfrischenden Finish. Er prognostiziert, dass der Wein über 12-15 Jahre hinweg gut trinkbar sein wird.

James Suckling vergibt 93 Punkte und beschreibt Aromen von schwarzen Johannisbeeren, schwarzen Kirschen, Kakao, Pinienkernen, gerösteten Gewürzen und Nussschalen. Der mittelkräftige Körper zeigt abgerundete, polierte Tannine und eine feine Textur, die in ein mineralisches und doch saftiges Finish übergeht. Er empfiehlt den Genuss ab 2024.

Yves Beck bewertet den Senejac mit 90 Punkten und lobt die Präzision und Raffinesse des Weins. Er beschreibt eine schöne Harmonie zwischen den Ausbau-Noten und den Aromen von schwarzen Fruchtkonfitüren. Mit einem körperreichen Charakter und sanften, griffigen Tanninen sowie einer strukturierten Textur wird dieser Wein empfohlen, um noch einige Jahre in der Kellerei zu reifen. The 2019 Poujeaux has a very delineated, focused bouquet of blackberry, cedar, mint and light tea leaf scents, one of the most complex I have encountered from this great estate in recent years. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, vibrant and grippy, with slightly chalky tannins and a saline, persistent finish. Quite structured and broody, this Moulis deserves ample time in bottle.

The 2019 Ormes de Pez has an intense bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and a touch of hoisin, but none of the smoky elements that I commented upon from the barrel sample last year. Nicely delineated and certainly less rustic than past vintages. The palate is finely tuned with a touch of bitter cherry on the entry, quite peppery, and a little stricter than I expected at the moment, leading to a granular, almost truffly finish.

This shows lots of spice, such as cloves and nutmeg, together with dark berries and cherries and some plums. It’s structured and relatively dense, with lovely length and beauty. Needs time to open and come together. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon with cabernet franc and petit verdot. Lovely now. Try after 2024.

Coming from the Cazes team, the 2019 Château Ormes De Pez is gorgeous and shines in the vintage. Pure crème de cassis, mulberries, leafy herbs, Asian spices, and lead pencil all emerge on the nose, and this medium to full-bodied 2019 has the vintage’s pure, focused, elegant style while staying ripe, supple, and textured. The balance is spot on, and it's going to hit maturity in roughly 8-10 years and have two decades of prime drinking.

The classic 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape from this team is a winner, offering a medium to full-bodied, finesse-driven style as well as terrific aromatics of darker berries, raspberries, garrigue, and flowers, with a kiss of background peppery spice. It's balanced, medium to full-bodied, has ripe, soft tannins, and is loaded with character. Drink bottles over the coming 10-15 years.
