Wild raspberries, blackberries, cloves, bark and tea leaves on the nose. Medium-bodied with firm, fine tannins. Earthy and a little austere with a tight finish. Better in 2024.

Part of the Magrez empire, the 2019 les Grands Chênes delivers aromas of rich berry fruit, toasty oak, licorice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, lively and youthfully chewy tannins assert themselves on the finish, though they'll likely integrate with a little time.

93 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Charmail 2018 Haut Medoc Jeb Dunnuck bewertet den Chateau Charmail 2018 Haut Medoc wie folgt:
One of those wines that punches well above its price point, the 2018 Château Charmail comes from the northern part of the Médoc and is a mix of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot brought up in mostly used barrels. Beautiful darker currants and cassis fruits as well as tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth give way to medium to full-bodied 2018 with a plush, rounded texture, a terrific mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous wine and I think even a step up over the 2016. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 10-12 years.

It´s interesting to see a few 100% Cabernet Sauvignons being shown En Primeur this year. suggesting confidence in the quality of this grape in 2018. Even with the evident ripeness and concentration on show here. this wine remains one of the fresher wines. more obviously sculpted. tight and tannic. and will take its time to come round. Good uplift on the finish.

(Flaschenbewertung)

Langanhaltendes Finale. 2024-2039

90 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lousteauneuf 2019 Medoc, James Suckling im Dezember 2021:

90 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Beaumont 2019 Haut MedocFür den Wine Advocate bewertet William Kelley den Chateau Beaumont 2019 Haut Medoc:
The 2019 Beaumont has turned out very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, pencil shavings and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and melting tannins, it's charming and nicely balanced. It's the finest wine from this large château that I can remember tasting.

92 Suckling Punkte für den Chateau Beaumont 2019 Haut MedocJames Suckling über den Chateau Beaumont 2019 Haut Medoc:
This is full and plush for an Haut-Medoc with medium to full body. Lots of blackberries and fresh herbs with redcurrants, too. Chewy, but polished. Give it two or three years to soften. Best after 2024.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Beaumont 2019 Haut MedocUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Beaumont 2019 Haut Medoc:
The 2019 Beaumont, cropped at 50hL/ha, has a lovely, delineated bouquet of blackberry, briary and light tobacco notes. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, and not quite as supple as before, though I appreciate the tangy seaweed note toward the finish. Just what you want from a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.

92 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Les Gravieres 2020 Saint Emilion Den Chateau Les Gravieres 2020 Saint Emilion beschreibt Jeb Dunnuck wie folgt:
Coming from Denis Barraud's tiny 4.52-hectare vineyard planted on gravelly, sandy soils, the 2020 Château Les Gravières offers a darker, richer, medium to full-bodied style as well as notes of black cherries, plums, toasted spice, and tobacco. Made from 100% Merlot that spent 14 months in 60% new French oak, it has beautiful integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's well worth seeking out and has a solid decade of prime drinking ahead of it.

93-95 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denChateau Les Gravières 2020Die Degustationsnotiz des Wine Advocate zum Chateau Les Gravieres 2020 Saint Emilion :
Made from 100% Merlot, the 2020 Les Gravieres has a deep purple-black color, rolling out of the glass with ready-for-business scents of plum preserves, baked black cherries and blueberry pie, plus hints of violets, clove oil and camphor, with a waft of tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers velvety tannins and a lively backbone to support the generous black and blue fruits, finishing long and spicy.

92-94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Les Gravieres 2020 Saint EmilionDas meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Les Gravieres 2020 Saint Emilion:
The 2020 Les Gravières is a powerful, bold Saint-Émilion loaded with intense mineral and savory notes that play off a core of inky dark fruit. Blueberry jam, gravel, smoke, lavender, licorice and cloves add gravitas. Les Gravières is another impressive wine in the trio of 2020s I tasted from proprietor Denis Barraud. I very much like the vibrancy and tension here. Tasted two times.

The 2018 de Pressac is laced with inky red berry fruit. blood orange. mint. leather. menthol and sweet floral notes. In multiple tastings. Pressac has been quite closed and reticent. Even so. there is terrific depth and textural resonance that carries through to the layered finish. At this stage. Pressac appears to be less exuberant than it typical is at this stage. The blend is 65% Merlot. 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Carmenère. Malbec and Cabernet Franc.

Malartic Lagraviere 2015 rouge mit 94 Punkten bei Robert ParkerNeal Martin bewertet den Malartic Lagraviere 2015 rouge am 28. Februar 2018 wie folgt:
The 2015 Malartic Lagraviere has enjoyed a fine run of form in recent vintages. This is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot with smaller portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It has a comparatively flamboyant bouquet for the appellation with scents of raspberry, crushed strawberry, cedar and a touch of graphite that lends it a Pauillac-like veneer. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, more black than red fruit infused with pencil lead and smoke. It fans out wonderfully toward the finish, completing a wonderful Malartic Lagravière that will age with panache.

Malartic Lagraviere 2015 rouge mit 96+ Punkten bei VinousAntonio Galloni bewertet den Malartic Lagraviere 2015 rouge im Februar 2018 wie folgt:
The 2015 Malartic Lagravière is just as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, voluptuous and dramatic, it captures all of the natural intensity of the year. Black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, licorice and French oak build into a crescendo of stunning aromas, flavors and textures. This is in an especially dark, sumptuous style, but it all works beautifully. The 2015 was positively thrilling each of the three times I tasted it.

Readers will find a rich. flamboyant wine in the 2016 Barde-Haut. There is not a ton of subtlety here. but I am not sure that matters all that much given how immensely pleasing the 2016 is. Crushed rocks. graphite. lavender. blackberry. plum. and violet infuse a Saint-Émilion that offers tremendous textural richness as well as vibrancy. Most importantly of all. the 2016 is flat-out delicious. This is a decidedly opulent. dark Saint-Émilion with all of the elements impeccably balanced. I loved it.

The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin. grippy in the mouth. and quite voluminous. with perhaps more density on the solid. almost broad-shouldered finish compared to the Clerc-Milon. This fulfills all my expectations from my barrel tasting and is quite simply one of the best d’Armailhac wines ever made.

The 2016 d'Armailhac is powerful and dense. just as it was from barrel. Readers will have to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle. as the tannins are imposing. Time in the glass brings out additional layers of nuance that complete the wine nicely.
