Composed of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Belair Monange has the most singular nose of grilled meats, smoked game. iron ore and fallen leaves over a slowly unfurling ripe fruit core of crushed black plums, blackberry preserves and cassis with fragrant touches of star anise and potpourri. Full-bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, the palate reveals an arresting backbone of exquisitely ripe, very firm tannins and sparks of background acidity lifting and defining the rich, densely packed layers, culminating in an epically long and multifaceted finish. Possessing its own compellingly beautiful signature, this is a remarkably riveting wine that should not be missed.

WOW. was für eine spektakuläre Nase. Der Belair Monange 2015 geizt nicht mit seinen Reizen. Und diese liegen auf der Hand. dunkles Creme de Cassis. schwarze Brombeere. superreife süsse rote Paprika. dazu kommen Röstnoten von dunkler Bitterschokolade und Zigarrenkiste. Auch wenn am Gaumen dass Tannin mächtig wirkt. so ist es doch ultrareif und poliert. Der Nachhall des Belair Monange 2015 ist sehr sehr lang. Ein Wein der jeden Fleck am Gaumen auskleidet und sich dort festklebt. um für mehrere Minuten zu bleiben.

It has a reticent bouquet at first. but it soon opens up with layers of blackberry. raspberry coulis. orange sorbet and floral aromas. This is beautifully defined and intellectual. a Saint Emilion with aromatic secrets that will only be revealed with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sturdy tannin. There is a firm backbone to this Belair-Monange. a serious Saint Emilion. complex and intellectual with precise red and black fruit. a touch of spice and a dash of white pepper on the finish. Dare I say. it represents the first Belair-Monange that ranks among JP Moueix's finest wines since the family acquired the property in 2011.

Im Gaumen ebenfalls eine stoffige Konzentration dokumentierend. geradlinig ausgerichtet mit einem klaren Ziel; in 20 Jahren zu den besten Saint Emilion zu gehören. War der Wechsel vor ein paar Jahren schwierig anzugehen. überzeugen die letzten Bélair-Monange's gleich von Beginn weg. Hier liegt bei seiner Reife gar noch ein Punkt mehr drin.

Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated, it's a serious 2018 offering integrated oak, ripe yet building tannins, and one hell of a great finish. The finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted, it's a wine to seek out and hide in the cellar for a good 5-7 years. It's going to evolve for 30-40 years.

Intense aromas of wet earth, limestone cellars and dark fruits such as currants and blackberries. Then turns to flowers. Black truffles, too. Licorice. Gravel. Full-bodied with a solid palate of tannins that melt into the wine. It’s sleek and muscular with fantastic length and presence. Reminds me of great old Belairs from the 1950s. Cool wine. 98% merlot and 2% cabernet franc. Give it six to eight years of time. Best after 2028.

The Grand Vin 2020 Château Belair-Monange is also 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc that's a blend of the upper limestone plateau and the more clay heavy soils on the hillside. Very much in the tight, structured style of the vintage, its dense purple hue is followed by a great nose of ripe black cherries, black raspberries, dried flowers, loamy earth, and camphor, with a beautiful sense of minerality. Opening up with time in the glass, it's full-bodied, has a deep, layered mouthfeel, gorgeous overall balance, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today but will benefit from 7-8 years of bottle age and will be a 30+ year wine.

This is a success in its demonstrative, modern style.

Complex nose of blackberries, raspberries, elderberries and spices. Earthy notes, too. It’s full-bodied with elegant tannins. Suave, fleshy texture on the palate. Flavorful finish with length. Lots of character. Second wine of Belair-Monange. Try after 2024.

Eine wichtige Umstrukturierung des Weinbergs wurde 2008 unmittelbar nach dem Erwerb des Weinguts durch Ets eingeleitet. Jean-Pierre Moueix. Anschließend entstand ein weiterer Wein, der die inhärenten Eigenschaften des Weinbergs verkörpert - Mineralität, Konzentration der roten Beeren, Gleichgewicht und Länge -: ANNONCE DE BÉLAIR-MONANGE. ANNONCE wird in sehr begrenzten Mengen hergestellt und genießt die gleiche Aufmerksamkeit wie der Grand Vin: akribische, umweltfreundliche Weinbergarbeiten, gefolgt von einer manuellen Ernte, sobald die Trauben die optimale Reife erreicht haben. Die Weinbereitung erfolgt in Bottichen aus Beton und Edelstahl, in denen Mazeration und Extraktion schonend und gemessen werden, um der Frucht ihren höchsten Ausdruck zu verleihen. Der Wein reift dann in französischen Eichenfässern. Obwohl ANNONCE in seiner Jugend großen Charme zeigt, werden einige Jahre Keller oder einige Stunden Dekantieren weitgehend belohnt.

Winter und Frühling waren sehr regnerisch. Ein später Knospenbruch am 9. April ermöglichte es uns, einen Frühlingsfrost zu vermeiden. Die Blüte vom 23. bis 30. Mai verlief gut und die potenzielle Qualität war signifikant. Der regnerische Frühling verursachte einen schweren Mehltauanfall, der dank der erheblichen Anstrengungen unserer Weinbergarbeiter vereitelt wurde. Während des Sommers hat ein Team von 60 Mitarbeitern die Ernte verdünnt und den gewünschten Ertrag an das Paket und das Alter der Reben angepasst. Nahezu perfekte Balance war die Belohnung für 16.800 Stunden sorgfältiger Arbeit. Die Véraison fand vom 26. Juli bis 12. August statt. Das Hauptmerkmal dieses Jahrgangs waren die 1.136 Sonnenstunden zwischen Juni und September, ein bemerkenswerter Rekord der letzten fünfzig Jahre. Die Ernte fand bei sonnigem Himmel und warmen Temperaturen vom 18. September bis 4. Oktober statt. Dieser Jahrgang von Annonce wird hauptsächlich aus dem Kalksteinplateau hergestellt und bietet eine schöne aromatische Palette roter und schwarzer Früchte, während der charakteristische Charme und die Mineralität des Schlosses erhalten bleiben.

The flagship 2019 Château Belair-Monange checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from 25-year-old vines and raised in 50% new French oak. It's a magical wine in the vintage and offers more depth and richness than just about every other Saint-Emilion out there, all while holding onto a gorgeous sense of finesse and elegance, which would almost have me guessing Pomerol in a blind tasting.

Deep red and black fruits, truffly earth, tobacco, and spring flower notes all emerge on the nose, and this puppy is full-bodied, has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, and one heck of a great finish. It's stunning, and while it offers incredible pleasure today given its purity and flawless balance, it deserves 7-8 years of bottle age and will evolve for 30 years or more.

This builds toward a lavish finish, with dark chocolate and cocoa notes lingering on the aftertaste. It will need several years in bottle but should repay those with the wherewithal to cellar.

What a lovely red-cherry and pomegranate nose this medium-bodied. elegantly structured St.-Emilion has. Very fresh finish with plenty of chalky minerality that builds on the long. clean finish. An excellent food-wine. Second wine of Bélair-Monange. A blend of 97 per cent merlot and three per cent cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

Château Bélair-Monange was born from the fusion of the vineyards of Châteaux Bélair and Magdelaine. both historic First Classified Growths of Saint-Émilion.

Château Bélair was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix in 2008. Tracing its origins back to Roman times. the vineyard is situated at the highest point of Saint-Émilion’s famed limestone plateau. Château Magdelaine. a contiguous cru acquired in 1952. has always been renowned for the remarkable elegance of its wines. Château Bélair-Monange expresses the unique style of the greatest parcels of these two complementary terroirs.

Following the restructuring of the estate initiated in 2008. another wine embodying the inherent qualities of the vineyard – minerality. concentration of red berries. balance and length – emerged in 2014: ANNONCE DE BÉLAIR-MONANGE

Produced in very limited quantities. ANNONCE enjoys the same attention as the Grand Vin: meticulous vineyard work undertaken with respect for the environment followed by a manual harvest once the grapes have reached optimal maturity. Vinification takes place in concrete and stainless-steel vats. where maceration and extraction are gentle and measured in order to allow the fruit its highest expression. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels.

Although ANNONCE exhibits great charm in its youth. a few years of cellaring or a few hours of decanting will be largely rewarded.

With a little swirling. this baby comes bounding out of the glass with energetic notes of wild blueberries. Morello cherries. baked plums and black raspberries with wafts of Indian spices. lavender. garrigue and tobacco plus a hint of licorice. Medium to full-bodied. the black and blue fruit dance playfully on the palate with fantastic freshness to lift the bold flavors and a superb frame of ripe. velvety tannins. It finishes very long and with amazing zing. So tempting to drink now. but make no mistake—this is one for the long haul!

Fresh earth. truffle. sous bois and attractively ripe blueberry and plum aromas here. It’s a bold and very pure. primary wine here for now. yet this has great potential. The palate reveals beautifully ripe red-plum and cherry flavors with a powerful tannin statement that carries impressive depth and scale on the finish. Give this time. Try from 2023.

The 2017 Bélair-Monange was so impressive out of barrel and now in bottle. I see no reason to alter my appreciation. It has a very intense bouquet. one that is reassuringly complex. especially in context of what was a rather ordinary growing season with copious red cherries. boysenberry. hints of iodine and a light terracotta scent. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are surprisingly rigid at the moment. suggesting that this will be a long term Saint-Émilion. There is a beguiling sense of symmetry. very mineral-driven towards the finish that has impressive sapidity. This comes highly recommended although it deserves five or six years in bottle. Bravo Christian and Edouard Moueix.

The 2016 Bélair-Monange is easily the most closed of all of J-P Moueix’s wines when I taste them together. It is stubbornly tight in the glass and then coquettishly unfurls mineral-rich red berry fruit mixed with rose petals; the perfume is captivating. The palate is well balanced. with velvety tannin and perfectly judged acidity. and very. very harmonious. More and more black fruit seems to join the chorus line toward the finish. which fans out gloriously. demonstrating superlative persistence. The best Bélair-Monange to date. and an accomplished. riveting Saint-Émilion. (tasted December 2018)

The 2015 Clos Fourtet is a blend of 90% Merlot. 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. and it was picked between 18 September and 12 October. It has a voluminous bouquet with sweet cassis and blueberry aromas. rather smudged with violets coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannin. ripe and voluptuous. dark chocolate infusing the red and black fruit with a touch of mint on the structured. graceful finish. What a fabulous Saint Emilion from Mathieu Cuvelier and his team - Clos Fourtet with breeding and class. It deserves 5-8 years in bottle.

Inky red/purplish stone fruit. lavender. spice. mint and orange peel give the 2015 its myriad shades of nuance. but it is the wine's balance and total sense of harmony that elevate it to the realm of the profound. In 2015. Clos Fourtet has a bit more body and resonance than is typically the case. Beneath all of the fruit. however. the 2015 has more than enough energy and structural underpinning to drink well for many years. This is a stunning wine from the Cuvelier family and consulting winemakers Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu. The blend is 88% Merlot. 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. The 2016 Pavie is simply magnificent. Gracious. perfumed and exquisitely beautiful. the 2016 has it all. I can't remember seeing a Pavie with this much translucent energy and nuance. Black cherry. plum. lavender. spice and menthol all infuse this explosive. young wine with tremendous character. In the glass. the 2016 is vivid. aromatically deep and full of saline-infused energy. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage. As it turns out Gerard Perse also opened the 2008. Although the two vintages (2016 and 2008) in question are quite different in style and quality. the trajectory Pavie has taken in recent years is evident. The 2016 is a thrilling wine. That's all there is to it. The blend is 60% Merlot. 22% Cabernet Franc and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasted two times.

Spectacular aromas of crushed berries. such as blueberries and raspberries. Fresh flowers with hints of sandalwood. Exotic. Saturated palate of so much fruit. yet remains agile and energetic. The 2016 Pavie a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Very deep purple-black in color. it needs a little coaxing to begin. slowly unfurling to reveal a fragrant perfume of violets. chocolate-covered cherries. crushed blueberries and eucalyptus over a core of preserved plums. kirsch. black raspberries and crème de cassis plus hints of licorice and chargrilled meat. Full-bodied and built like a brick house. it has a solid foundation of firm. super ripe. grainy tannins and seamless freshness interknit with the black fruit preserves and minerally layers. finishing very long and very decadent. Superb!
