En compañía placentera - in angenehmer Gesellschaft: Aus der konzentrierten und durchdringenden Frucht des Cabernet Sauvignon entstehen krautige und leicht würzige Aromen, der Monastrell verleiht dem Cuvée Brombeere und etwas Unterholz. So entsteht ein hervorragender Rotwein, der bereits als Mythos gilt. Intensiv und hochkonzentriert mit einem sehr intelligenten Einsatz von Holz, wobei balsamische und mineralische Aromen die Fruchtnoten zu keinem Zeitpunkt verdrängen. Zum ersten Jahrgang 2002 des Gemeinschaftprojekt der Familie Gil und des renommierten Winzers Chris Ringland aus Barossa bemerkte einst Robert Parker: "This wine is just one more reason why the wine world is more exciting than ever!"

„Der Clio 2021 ist reif und üppig mit 16 % Alkohol und großzügiger Holzfasslagerung. Er bleibt dem Stil des Hauses treu, wirkt jedoch, wie viele andere Weine des Jahrgangs 2021 aus der Familie Gil, frischer und ausgewogener als sein Pendant aus 2020. Am Gaumen ist er vollmundig mit reichlich, aber feineren Tanninen. Es wurden 50.000 Flaschen produziert. Die Abfüllung erfolgte im September 2023.“

Das Blue Label steht für einen echten Klassiker im Hause Juan Gil. Eine Selektion von sehr alten Monastrell-Weinbergen mit geringem Erträgen sowie den Rebsorten Cabernet-Sauvignon und Syrah in der Blend. Die Weinberge liegen auf 700 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel. Nach dem Ausbau erhalten Sie einen Wein mizt sehr guter bis kräftiger Konzentration. Sein Ausbau fand über 18 Monate in einer sorgfältigen Auswahl von französischen und amerikanischen Fässern statt.

Intensive kirschrote Farbe mit granatrotem Rand und kräftigem Aroma von schwarzen Früchten, Röst- und balsamische Noten. Komplex und gut strukturiert, geschmeidig und reif, angenehm am Gaumen und sehr anhaltend, mit Röst-, Kakao- und Gewürznoten. Ausgewogen und harmonisch, schmackhaft und mit einem langen, eleganten Abgang, der von der "Süße" edler Tannine aus sehr reifen Früchten geprägt ist, die ihr Potenzial in der Flasche zeigen.

I also tasted the 2019 Juan Gil (blue label), the wine formerly known as 18 Months, the time it spends in barrel. They use 100% new oak that is a mixture of French and American. The wine is ripe, oaky and heady (15.5% alcohol), but I felt a change in the oak, which seemed more integrated. When I asked Miguel Gil, he told me they had changed the toast, using less toasted barrels, from medium+ to medium, and that shows in the wine. They still believe this wine should have new oak to give it aging potential. They have also introduced optical sorting of the grapes and eliminate the raisins (by shape) and the unripe grains (by color), and that adds precision and cleanliness. 30.000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in June 2021.

Ein stilvolles Bouquet von schwarzen Früchten, die sich mit Gewürzen, Lebkuchen und Lakritze vermischen. Der weiche, geschmeidige Einstieg am Gaumen führt zu einem Gefühl von sanfter Kraft und luftig-leichtem Volumen, untermauert von kaschmirartigen, seidigen Tanninen, die von einer frischen Säure harmonisch ausgeglichen werden. Im Abgang kommen cremige Vanillenoten mit reifen Früchten zum Vorschein. Dieser Wein verlockt zum zum sofortigen Genuss, aber er wird noch viele Jahre lang gut altern.

The most classical of their wines, the 2015 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, mostly from Rioja Alta (Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche), but the Garnacha is from different plots in the zone of Tudelilla at high altitude. These grapes are always picked last, but the wine has a similar alcohol level as the rest, around 14.5% in a warm year like 2019. The modus operandi is similar to other of the top cuvées—harvested into 200-kilogram boxes, destemming, optical sorting and fermentation in small oak casks with indigenous yeasts. The élevage in this case is extended to 36 months, and the barrels are only 10% new. This is, year in, year out, my favorite wine from Muga, and in this powerful and ripe year, these late-harvesting vines ripened thoroughly and delivered a full array of aromas and flavors so that the wine has plenty of depth and complexity. It has a very classical profile, with incipient tertiary notes, perfumed, floral and rich, textured and beautifully balanced. They compare this 2015 with 2009 and 2005 in terms of style but with freshness in the style of 2001 and 2010. It's enjoyable but should also develop for a long time in bottle. One of the finest Prado Enea vintages. 108,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2018. There's no 2012 or 2013 of this. There will be a 2016 and 2019, but no 2017 or 2018. 2020 is still a question mark, they have not yet decided it.

Reserved and polished, this is a Prado Enea with great class and focus. It’s so aromatic,with plum, peach, cherry and cedar character. Salted olives, too. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. Elegance with power here. Give it three or four years to open, but already impressive.

Long and lightly juicy on the refined finish. Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha. Drink now through 2030.

Da gilt es den richtigen Lesezeitpunkt für die Trauben zu erwischen, die dann zum Vega Sicilia Bodegas Pintia Toro 2018 Toro verarbeitet werden, damit der Wein seine frischen Aromen und seinen Säuregehalt beibehält. Bei der Gärung wurde zum ersten Mal eine neue Produktionsanlage eingesetzt, die ein noch präziseres Arbeiten bei der Extraktion ermöglicht. Zudem hat man den Anteil an neuen Fässern erhöht, das Toasting aber weiter reduziert. Das Ergebnis - der Pintia 2018 ist der wahrscheinlich vertikalste und fruchtigste Pintia ever, und ein Wein mit einer sehr seidigen Textur.

Luis Gutiérrez am 31. Januar 2023 zum Vega Sicilia Bodegas Pintia Toro 2018 Toro:

The 2018 Pintia comes from a cooler and wetter vintage when the grapes were picked between September 20th and October 7th, and it fermented in their new fermentation room where they feel they can be more precise. The wine still has 15% alcohol, with a pH of 3.82 and 4.6 grams of acidity. It had a shorter élevage this year and matured for 10 months in French and 18% American oak barrels, 81% of them new. The nose is very expressive, with bright cherry fruit, and the wine is fresher than the norm in the region, with integrated alcohol and oak, reflecting a very cool year, floral and perfumed. The palate is medium-bodied and reveals very fine and elegant tannins. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Pintia. 251,512 bottles, 14,144 half-bottles, 6,543 magnums and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in April 2020.

"Ein wirklich facettenreicher Pintia", schreibt James Suckling in seiner Verkostungsnotiz im November 2022:

Brooding but fresh nose, with tarry blackberries and fresh blue fruit. Iron, wet stones, violets and a hint of mocha, too. Full-bodied, mineral and broad on the palate with a stony feel, though not heavy at all. A really elegant, nuanced and extremely poised Pintia that you can enjoy now and for the next decade. A really eclectic Pintia showing more elegance and calculation. Drink or hold.
