“Reif und cremig mit einem vollen Körper" (James Suckling)

Mit dem Jahrgang 2022 brachte Rays Road sehr konzentrierte und reiche Früchte aus dieser einzigartigen Lage hervor. Mit neuen klonalen Chardonnay-Pflanzungen in ihrem zweiten Produktionsjahr war das Team um Michael Brajkovich in der Lage, zusätzliche Reife und Fülle mit der frischen, kalkhaltigen Lebendigkeit der bestehenden Reben zu kombinieren. Das Ergebnis ist ein aufregender Rays Road Chardonnay, der in der Nase weiße Blumen und Zitrone zeigt und am Gaumen eine reiche Textur und lebendige Säure aufweist. Dieser Wein ist eine großartige Ergänzung des Kumeu River Sortiments und auf der Estate sieht man jetzt den Qualitätssprung, den man sich von dieser Lage erwartet hatten.

 

James Suckling zum Kumeu River 2022 Rays Road Chardonnay Hawks Bay (Oktober 2023):

Lemony and crisp with a stone and seashell undertone to the pretty fruit. Medium body, firm phenolics that tighten the wine on the palate. Racy and intense on the finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Die Spätburgunder-Reben wurden noch von den alten Eigentümern desd Weinbergs im Jahr 2008 angepflanzt. Der Schieferboden macht dieses außergewöhnliche Terroir so besonders. Nach der malolaktischen Gärung reift der Wein für 12 Monate in alten Fässern (10% neues Holz). Das Ergebnis ist ein toller Wein, der in seiner Frucht an reife Kirschen und rote Beeren erinnert. Er ist jetztz schon trrinkreif, wobei man sicher sagen kann, dass er mit zunehmendem Alter noch Potential zulegen wird.

Very perfumed with cherries and fresh strawberries. Medium body. Tight and polished. Forest-floor flavors. Drinking beautifully, but will age nicely. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

This has hit an impressive trajectory with very well-curated, fresh blueberry, red-cherry and black-cherry aromas, swathed in sweet baking spices and fresh-tilled earth. The palate has sleekly defined tannins, carrying intense, ripe blueberry and red-cherry flavors, amid deeply buried spice. Impressive, this is the finest Aroha to date. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

A very impressive and impactful expression of syrah from the cooler climes of Hawke’s Bay, this offers red plum and blackberry, as well as pepper, violets, dry spices and stones. Very fragrant and complex. The palate is intense, with real purpose and direction to the clean-cut tannins. Long, pure darker-berry flavors abound. On form. Drink over the next eight years. Screw cap.

This is really seductive on the nose and already gives an impression of plushness with regal, violet-like florals, plums and mulberries in abundance and all nicely ripe. Additional notes of cedary oak and freshly tilled earth. The palate is full and fleshy and the tannins compose nicely as it builds. Cabernet takes the lead through the long, impressive finish. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Long aging potential.
