The 2019 du Tertre opens in the glass with aromas of sweet cassis and plums mingled with undergrowth, cedarwood, violets and subtle hints of cigar wrapper. Medium-bodied, bright and integrated, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and fine, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish, it delivers a certain generosity of fruit in a fine-boned package. Even if this numbers among the more powerful du Tertre vintages of recent years, it remains a wine defined by elegance more than impact.

A blend of 54% cabernet sauvignon, 27% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot. Try after 2024.

I have always wondered if du Tertre, which is always a bit monolithic, can be more. The château is under new ownership, so perhaps we will find out.

This dense purple-hued beauty boasts a stunning nose of blackcurrants, crème de cassis, tobacco, baking spices, chocolate, and cedarwood. With full-bodied richness, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, gorgeous tannins, and one seriously long finish, it hits that palate with 15% alcohol, yet you wouldn't know it by tasting it, and the wine is perfectly balanced, has incredible purity of fruit, and stays fresh and lively, with a clean finish. This magical Saint-Estèphe can be drunk any time over the coming 20+ years.

The 2018 Cos d'Estournel is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new oak barriques. The alcohol weighs in at just over 14.5%. Sporting a deep purple-black color, it needs a lot of swirling to begin to unlock a powerful nose of crème de cassis, stewed plums, wild blueberries and chocolate-covered cherries, followed by nuances of Sichuan pepper, star anise, tree and clove oil, plus a waft of charcoal. The full-bodied palate is densely packed with taut, muscular black fruits and earthy layers, framed by super firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and wonderfully earthy. A very impressive behemoth, this is going to need a good seven to 10 years to truly show its stuff and should drink for a good 40 years and beyond.

Der 2018 Montrose ist eine Mischung aus 72 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 % Merlot, 6 % Cabernet Franc und 2 % Petit Verdot. Ein kraftvoller Vollkörper-Wein sowie ein perfekter Wein, der 2018 Château Montrose ist eine Endmischung aus 72 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 % Merlot und 6 % Cabernet Franc, die in 60 % neuen französischen Eichenfässern gereift wurde. Er prahlt mit einer tiefen lila Färbung sowie fantastischen Ebenen von Crème de Cassis und rauchigen Brombeerfrüchten und Noten von Tabak, Bleistiftmine, verbrannter Erde und Schokolade. Er ist tief, opulent und unglaublich konzentriert am Gaumen, mit keiner Mangel an Mittel-Palate-Tiefe, Tanninen oder Länge. Er erinnert mich ein wenig an eine frischere Version des 2003ers, obwohl 2018 mehr Cabernet Sauvignon und weniger Merlot enthalten sind. Er hat diese klassische Montrose-Mineralität und zurückhaltende, mineralgetränkte Art, doch ich vermute, dass er in nur 5-6 Jahren trinkbar sein wird und sich zu einer modernen Legende dieses Terroirs entwickeln sollte.

Die Cuvee für den Jahrgang 2018 besteht aus 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot und 18% Petit Verdot. Volle Konzentration mit leichter Aufhellung. Die Nase ist sehr betörend und verführerisch. reife Frucht. süssliche Würze. geröstete Nüsse. Sahnemokka. Am Gaumen super balanciert. dennoch stoffig und kompakt. überhaupt nicht anstrengend. Sehr sauberes und langes Finale. Für uns klar über 2014.2015 aber nicht an den Best Ever Meyney 2016. welchen wir noch vor der Primeurwoche im Glas hatten. da fehlt einfach ein gutes Stück.

The 2018 offers striking immediacy, but also has enough structure to develop well in bottle for 15-20 years, maybe more. The 2018 Meyney is a wine of immense pleasure. Für mich ist dieser Wein eine kleine Sensation. Die Entdeckung machte ich auf einer Weinmesse, hier wo man wie ein kleines Trüffelschwein von Stand zu stand schlendert und auf eine AHA-Erlebnis im Glas lauert. Dieses Erlebnis stellte sich zum Glück beim La Fortune 2016 ein, gerade noch rechtzeitig um auch direkt eine kleine Menge des 2019 zu sichern. Der Geschmack ist für mich etwas untypisch Margaux, denn man hat in der Nase zwar diese satte dunkle Fruchtaromatik von Kirsche, Waldbeeren und auch florale Anklänge, aber was dem Weine so eine zusätzliche Komponente verleiht, ist dieser Schoko und geröstete Nüsse Touch, nicht nur in der Nase!

Auch am Gaumen spielt er seine Reize voll aus, die Fruch ist sehr schön präsent und die Tannine sind stützend, seine feingliedrige Säure vermählt sich schön mit einer steinigen Mineralität. Der Wein ist nicht überladen aber er lässt auch nichts vermissen, tolle Neuentdeckung und wir freuen uns von nun an immer auf ein paar wenige Flaschen dieses Weins, denn die Produktion ist nie sehr gross. Gerne verleihe ich diesem Wein 93 Punkte und finde das gebotenen Preis Genussverhältnis sehr ansprechend.

The 2016 Malescot Saint Exupéry is fabulous. Powerful and explosive on the palate. the 2016 offers serious intensity. but it also appears to be holding back quite a bit of its potential. Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. Hints of iron. smoke. cedar. tobacco and scorched earth add nuance. but it is the wine's sense of poise that is most remarkable. I loved it. Tasted three times.

The 2019 Malescot Saint Exupéry has a well-defined bouquet, although it does not quite possess the intensity that it showed from barrel. Touches of licorice and allspice gently unfold with time.
