The 2018 Faugeres is fresh. lively and quite deep. with a striking interplay of floral top notes and rich. layered fruit. I sense a shift towards a more refined style. Even so. there is plenty of the depth and textural richness readers have become accustomed to. Dark red fruit. espresso. cedar and dried flowers add lovely shades of aromatic nuance as well as energy. The 2018 is beautifully rendered. The blend is 85% Merlot. 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Proprietor Silvio Denz and consulting winemake Michel Rolland turned out a gorgeous Faugeres in 2018. My only real critique is that Faugeres and the pure Peby Faugeres are more closer in style than they usually are. which is remarkable as the blends are totally different! Tasted three times.

It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

Sweet dark cherry, chocolate, leather, licorice and mocha build into the resonant, super-expressive finish. The 2019 is a classy Fombrauge.

The Mangot 2019 Todeschini Distique 12 is a special cuvée that celebrates the 12 years (and counting) that the Todeschini brothers have been working together at this estate and which blends 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver a more structured, concentrated wine than the regular Mangot blend. Dieser Wein wurde aus Trauben der Sorte Monastrell hergestellt, die von alten Weinbergen mit sehr geringer Produktion auf sehr kalkhaltigen und steinigen Böden an der Oberfläche geerntet wurden. Das Ergebnis ist ein Wein mit intensiver kirschroter Farbe, reifen Fruchtaromen und einem langen, würzigen Abgang mit einem Hauch der getoasteten französischen Eiche, in der er gelagert wurde.

Dieser edle Wein von Juan Gil ist sehr vielseitig einsetzbar - von gedünstetem Fleisch & Gemüse über kraftvolle Pilzgerichte. Gegrilltem oder auch einem edlen Blauschimmelkäse.

beschreibt die Familie Gil ihren Laya. Gelegen zwischen der maritimen Levante und der Kontinentalität La Manchas bringen die alten Rebstöcke hier, in der DO Almansa, konzentrierte Trauben der Garnacha Tintorera (vielleicht besser bekannt als Alicante Bouschet) mit ihrem violetten Fruchtfleisch, und des Monastrell hervor. Ein spannender Wein, der Frische, Komplexität und Struktur vereint. Im Glas begegnet uns eine intensive kirschrote Farbe. Das Bouquet zeigt mit reifen Früchten sowie blumigen Noten eine ansprechende Komplexität. Am Gaumen lässt er bei aller Geschmeidigkeit und Vollmundigkeit die jugendliche Dynamik nicht vermissen. Süßliches Tannin und ein überzeugender Abgang vervollständigen den Bodegas Atalaya Juan Gil Laya DO Almansa 2021.

The 2021 Laya was produced with 70% Garnacha Tintorera and 30% Monastrell, looking for a fruit-driven and easy to drink red with 14.5% alcohol, ripe fruit and a soft texture. 2021 was warmer than the average but with some cold spells, especially the one in January called Filomena that brought lots of snow, despite which, it was also a dry year and they got up to 40% less grapes. This fermented in stainless steel vats with neutral yeasts, with malolactic in barrel, where the wine matured for four months. This shows some toasty oak, but it might be because it's too young and very recently bottled. But vintages seem to take oak differently; they believe this will show as integrated as the 2020. Time will tell. In any case, it's a wine for the short term, and it's very good for what it is. 360,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022.

Zum Weingut Zenato:
Schon seit Jahren ist das Gut von Santa Christina Eigentum der Familie Zenato. Das Gut befindet sich ungefähr 25 km westlich der norditalienischen Stadt Verona, in der Provinz Veneto. Die Weingärten beschlagen 40 ha und liegen auf den besten Parzellen dieses Gebiets. Die optimale Lage in Bezug auf die Sonne, die ideale Zusammenstellung des Bodens, genügend Niederschlag und die relativ niedrigen Nachttemperaturen sorgen für eine besonders gute und gleichmäßige Reifung der Trauben, welche darum hervorragend für die Herstellung qualitativ hochwertiger Weine geeignet sind. Hier wird auch ein prächtiger Cabernet Wein produziert ( 85% Cabernet Sauvignon und 15% Cabernet Franc ). Die Trauben für diesen Wein werden speziell von Hand selektiert, um sicher zu sein, dass nur die besten und reifsten Trauben Trossen verwendet werden für die Herstellung dieses Weins. Nach der Gärung reift der Wein gute 15 bis 18 Monate in Eichenholzfässern, gefolgt von drei Monaten in Edelstahltanks, um zur Ruhe zu kommen und danach weitere sechs Monate in der Flasche, bevor der Wein in den Handel kommt.

Der Federici Le Ripe Lazio Rosso 2017 ist eine Cuvée aus Syrah, Cabenet Sauvignon und Merlot, zeigt schon von Aussen, wieviel Saft hier im Spiel ist - die Etikettierung spricht für sich. Wie bei Federici so üblich, Im Glas von dunklem Rubonrot mit violetten Reflexen, üppig, auch in der Nase. Viel dunkle Beere, etwas Zimt und Vanille vom sechsmonatigen Holzausbau. Der Federici Le Ripe Lazio Rosso 2017 ist dicht am Gaumen. Hier eine schöne konzentriete Frucht, aber nicht ohne Finesse. Feine Mineralik, ein Hauch animierendes Gerbstoff stützen die Opulenz und machen ihn trinkig. Wir finden, dass diese Trinkigkeit viel zu vielen Weinen abgeht und diese gern schon nach einem Glas "satt" machen. Vom Federici Le Ripe Lazio Rosso 2017 gehen auch gut und gerne zwei oder drei Gläser - sofern man nicht fahren muss.
