The 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan was bottled in mid-May as usual. This was one of the wines of the vintage out of barrel. and now it has a compelling bouquet with blackberry. smoke and iris. There is wonderful delineation here. a cerebral bouquet that is quite mercurial in the glass. traces of black truffle emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and just a killer line of acidity. a Vieux Chateau Certan surfeit with energy and joie de vivre. It fans out in glorious. almost swaggering fashion with truffle and white pepper. a touch of truffle on the persistent finish. This is clearly destined to be one among the canon of legendary wines from the estate although it does deserve requisite cellaring. This is one of the wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2025 - 2055.

Seit 2009 ist eine Auswahl von Kiesparzellen im nordöstlichen Teil des Weinguts dem Espérance de Trotanoy gewidmet, einem Wein, der nach nur wenigen Jahren des Kellerns fruchtbetont und zugänglich ist, aber die Tiefe beibehält. Komplexität und Konzentration des Geschmacks, die für Trotanoys Terroir charakteristisch sind. From an estate that has been on an incredible run of late, largely due to the talents of director David Suire, the 2020 Château Laroque shows the cooler, limestone-driven style of the terroir beautifully and has a clean, focused style in its darker (almost blue) berry fruits as well as chalky minerality, violets, spice, and floral nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate, this focused, straight, remarkably pure Saint-Emilion has terrific mid-palate depth and a great finish. It needs to be hidden in the cellar for a solid 4-5 years if possible and is going to have 30 years of longevity. If drinking any time soon, give it an hour in a decanter.

The 2020 Laroque has turned out nicely, bursting with aromas of cherries, minty blackberries, licorice and bay leaf. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with good depth at the core, chalky but refined tannins and a saline finish, it's another strong performance for this rising star of Saint-Émilion.
