This is the most powerful La Conseillante I have tasted with lots of muscle and intensity. Full and savory. Chewy. Agile and formed. Beautiful ripe fruit in the center palate. This is a little pushed to the limit like the great Conseillants of the 1960s and 1970s.

The 2015 La Conseillante. a blend of 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc. is extraordinarily pure and elegant on the nose. Here. I find a little more red fruit than black fruit. extremely elegant and articulating the terroir with great clarity. At first. wild strawberry and cranberry. then crushed stone. a touch of black truffle and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied. fresh and elegant with fine tannin on the entry. This is one of the most approachable La Conseillante wines that I have tasted in barrel. the acidity very well judged. "classic" in style. good backbone here with a structured finish. It does not quite possess the bravura of the 2010 La Conseillante and I would agree with winemaker Marielle Cazaux that it bears more semblances to the 2005 La Conseillante at this stage. and even bore common traits with its neighbour. Vieux Château Certan. This is an intellectual and to put it prosaically. "delicious" La Conseillante.

Wunderbares Brombeer-Schokobouquet. weit ausladend und mit schönen Würzkomponenten. Im Gaumen merkt man den floralen Part des Cabernet Franc. samtene Textur. eine wunderschöne. malzige Süsse im füllig-schmelzigen Extrakt aufzeigend. elegant ausklingend. The 2018 Vieux Château Certan is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Yields were 40 hectoliters per hectare. The wine has a pH of 3.78. 14.4% alcohol and an IPT (total polyphenol index) of 77. Medium to deep garnet-purple—it has a very vibrant color—it drifts effortlessly out of the glass with wonderfully intense. beautifully delineated scents of red roses. black raspberries. kirsch and Darjeeling tea before the powerful. profound black fruits kick in: baked plums. wild blueberries. molten licorice and mulberries with touches of cigar box. cinnamon stick. tapenade and truffles. The 2018 Vieux Château Certan is a very pretty wine built more on elegance. finesse and aromatic nuance. Relative to the recent past. the 2018 shows a much more mid-weight structure and less of the creaminess of either 2015 or 2016. Much of that is attributable to a blend that includes 30% Cabernet Franc. Lavender. rose petal. mint and blueberry fruit all grace the 2018. Far from an obvious wine. the 2018 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. as it is a wine of total understatement and class. Fine beads of tannin support the understated finish. In 2018. VCC is a wine of refinement and subtlety more than anything else. I don't see the same visceral thrill as in a number of vintages of the recent past. Perhaps that will come in bottle.

The 2016 Certan de May is a powerful. dense wine. just as it was en primeur. A blast of grilled herbs. leather. smoke. tobacco. licorice and dark-fleshed fruits makes a strong opening statement. Potent and strap in feel. Certan de May shows the more virile side of Pomerol. The profile is decidedly sepia-toned. Readers should plan on being patient with the 2016. It is a jewel of a wine that just needs bottle age to be at its best.

Das Potential ist aber beeindruckend. Also; let's see in 10 years.

The 2016 Le Gay is terrific. Rich. explosive and vertical in feel. the 2016 is a wine of pedigree and real class. Inky blue and purplish fruit. licorice. lavender all race across the palate. From bottle. Le Gay is more a wine of subtlety and vibrancy than pure power. As good as it is. my impression today is that the fruit is a bit dried out. I liked the 2016 more from barrel.

Today. the fruit is a bit muted. although the wine's power. depth and overall structure are very much present. Mocha. espresso. grilled herbs and leather build into the dark. somber finish.
