Von einem Weingut, das in letzter Zeit eine unglaubliche Erfolgsserie hatte – vor allem dank der Talente von Direktor David Suire – zeigt der 2020 Château Laroque den kühleren, kalksteinbetonten Stil des Terroirs auf wunderschöne Weise. Er präsentiert eine klare, fokussierte Stilistik mit dunklen (fast bläulichen) Beerenfrüchten, kreidiger Mineralität, Veilchen, Gewürzen und floralen Nuancen. Am Gaumen mittelkräftig, ist dieser fokussierte, gradlinige und bemerkenswert reine Saint-Émilion von großartiger Tiefe im Mittelgaumen und einem hervorragenden Abgang. Er sollte, wenn möglich, für solide 4–5 Jahre im Keller verborgen bleiben und wird eine Langlebigkeit von 30 Jahren haben. Wenn er schon bald getrunken wird, sollte er für eine Stunde in der Karaffe belüftet werden.

Der 2020 Laroque ist sehr gelungen und entfaltet Aromen von Kirschen, minzigen Brombeeren, Lakritz und Lorbeerblatt. Mittel- bis vollmundig, samtig und vielschichtig, mit guter Tiefe im Kern, kreidigen, aber fein strukturierten Tanninen und einem salinen Abgang. Eine weitere starke Leistung für diesen aufstrebenden Star aus Saint-Émilion.

Der 2020 Laroque ist sogar besser als die en primeur Probe. Dunkel und umhüllend, mit Tonnen von Klasse, Laroque ist ein Gewinner. Fleischige dunkle Pflaume, Kies, Gewürze, Menthol, Lakritze und Pfeifentabak geben den 2020 Tonnen Nuancen. Laroque ist personifizierter. Der Winzer David Suire macht hier wichtige Arbeit.

From an estate that has been on an incredible run of late, largely due to the talents of director David Suire, the 2020 Château Laroque shows the cooler, limestone-driven style of the terroir beautifully and has a clean, focused style in its darker (almost blue) berry fruits as well as chalky minerality, violets, spice, and floral nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate, this focused, straight, remarkably pure Saint-Emilion has terrific mid-palate depth and a great finish. It needs to be hidden in the cellar for a solid 4-5 years if possible and is going to have 30 years of longevity. If drinking any time soon, give it an hour in a decanter.

The 2020 Laroque has turned out nicely, bursting with aromas of cherries, minty blackberries, licorice and bay leaf. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with good depth at the core, chalky but refined tannins and a saline finish, it's another strong performance for this rising star of Saint-Émilion.

Straffe und sehr feine Tannine, die sich über die gesamte Länge des Weins erstrecken. Am Ende entfaltet sich der Wein. So frisch und energisch. Tanninhaltig im Abgang mit feiner Textur. Trinkbar ab 2028.

TDer Grand Vin stammt aus einem winzigen 11,15 Hektar großen Weinberg, der seit 1893 im Besitz der Familie Gratiot ist. Er befindet sich an der südlich ausgerichteten Côte Pavie, zwischen Château Pavie und Château Bellefont-Belcier, und besteht aus Ton auf Kalksteinböden. Der Weinberg wird derzeit mit einer massalen Selektion und einer höheren Pflanzdichte neu bepflanzt. Die Trauben werden von Hand sortiert, die Vinifikation erfolgt ausschließlich in Beton und dauert vier Wochen, der Ausbau erfolgt in 50% neuem französischen Eichenholz. Eine normale Mischung aus 90% Merlot und 10% Cabernet Franc, erinnert mich der 2020 Château Larcis Ducasse an den 2005er und gehört zu den besten Weinen am rechten Ufer. Er hat ein brillantes Parfum von roten und schwarzen Früchten, weißen Trüffeln, blättrigem Tabak und asiatischen Gewürzen. Dies führt zu einem vollmundigen, konzentrierten, kraftvollen Larcis-Ducasse mit ultrafeinen, aber aufbauenden Tanninen, perfekter Balance, einem kompakten Mittelgaumen und einem großartigen Abgang. In 7-8 Jahren wird er beinahe perfekt sein (wahrscheinlich bewerte ich ihn um einen Punkt zu niedrig) und hat eine Gesamtlebensdauer von 30 Jahren. Mehrfach mit konstanten Ergebnissen verkostet

Eine schöne Leistung, die sinnlicher und nahtloser ist als Thienponts strukturierterer, düsterer Pavie Macquin. Der 2020 Larcis Ducasse entfaltet sich im Glas mit Aromen von Kirschen, Brombeeren, Lorbeerblatt, Rosenblättern und Lakritze. Mittel- bis vollmundig, vielschichtig und konzentriert, mit feinen Tanninen, lebhaften Säuren und einem geschmeidigen, fleischigen Profil, endet er mit einem langen, expansiven Abgang. Dies ist ein besonderer Erfolg im Jahr 2020. Unter der Leitung von Nicolas Thienpont und David Suire seit 2002 nimmt Larcis Ducasse einen 11 Hektar großen Block neben Pavie ein. Rund 15% des Weinbergs befinden sich auf dem Plateau am oberen Ende des Hangs, aber diese Parzellen werden derzeit umstrukturiert und tragen vorerst nur einen kleinen Teil zur Mischung bei, sodass es sich wirklich um einen "vin de coteaux" handelt—einen Wein von den Hängen. Die Böden bestehen hauptsächlich aus Molasses du Fronsadais-Ton über Kalkstein, aber eine Vielfalt von Expositionen und Schichten bedeutet, dass dies ein von Natur aus komplexes Terroir ist. Der Larcis Ducasse 2020 ist ein echter Hingucker. Hell und vertikal im Gefühl, besitzt der 2020er eine enorme Energie, die zu seinem superklassischen Aufbau passt. Strahlen von Tannin und Säure geben dem Wein seine Form. Dunkle Kirsch- und Granatapfelfrucht treten hervor, mit einem Hauch von Blutorangensäure, die Frische verleiht. Graphit, getrocknete Kräuter, Menthol, Gewürze und Zeder treten mit etwas Überredung hervor, aber der 2020er ist sehr jung und sehr primär. Das verheißt natürlich eine großartige Zukunft. Der 2020er ist schlichtweg ein aufregender Larcis und eines der besten Angebote in ganz Bordeaux.

Incredibly pure cassis and blueberry fruits as well as complex spring flowers, liquid violets, white truffle, and a liqueur of limestone-like minerality define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with ultra-fine tannins, the vintage's pure, focused, structured profile, and a great finish. As in most vintages, this beauty is not for instant gratification and needs 7-8 years, if not a decade of cellaring to show its potential. It's another true vin de garde from the team of Nicolas Thienpont (Stéphane Derenoncourt also consults) that readers will love to have in their cellar.

The Grand Vin 2020 Château Belair-Monange is also 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc that's a blend of the upper limestone plateau and the more clay heavy soils on the hillside. Very much in the tight, structured style of the vintage, its dense purple hue is followed by a great nose of ripe black cherries, black raspberries, dried flowers, loamy earth, and camphor, with a beautiful sense of minerality. Opening up with time in the glass, it's full-bodied, has a deep, layered mouthfeel, gorgeous overall balance, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today but will benefit from 7-8 years of bottle age and will be a 30+ year wine.

Straight-up awesome aromatics of crème de cassis, ripe black cherries, iron, spring flowers, and an almost bloody, salty character emerge from the glass, and it's full-bodied, with a seamless mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and absolutely perfectly integrated oak. It's still tight and reserved, which is certainly the vintage, so do your best to hide these in the cellar. It should hit the early stages of its prime drinking window in 8-10 years and will have 30+ of overall longevity. It will unquestionably flirt with perfection at maturity.

While it's easy to compare this to wines from the Médoc given its high Cabernet content, it has beautiful Right Bank character and is a classic, balanced, incredibly impressive Figeac that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and cruise for over two decades. It reminds me slightly of the 2014.

Composed of 50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Pavie weighs in with an alcohol of 14.82% and a pH of 3.61. It is aging in French oak barriques, 75% new. Opaque purple-black colored, notes of plum pudding, blueberry pie and dark chocolate-covered cherries charge out of the gate, followed closely by hints of eucalyptus, star anise, unsmoked cigars and fertile loam with a hint of cedar chest. The full-bodied palate is built like a brick house, offering very firm yet wonderfully ripe, velvety tannins and seamless freshness to support the densely laden, muscular black and blue fruits, finishing very long and with loads of mineral-laced layers. As hedonic as it is cerebral this year, it is a beautiful paradox.

The palate is medium-bodied with sautéed tannins that gently grip. Powerful, but the 14.82° alcohol is neatly disguised on the finish (at least in tasting measure) with fine delineation. Cohesive and focused. I would like to see a little more personality develop during élevage, but this remains an impressive Saint-Émilion and a Pavie with a long future ahead.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries and raspberries mingled with notions of exotic spices and iris, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with vibrant acids and beautifully polished, chalky tannins. Pure and precise, it concludes with a long, mouthwatering finish. This beautifully constructed wine communicates the essence of this superb limestone terroir, and it will be worth a special effort to track down and cellar.

As with the 2019, it's not the blockbuster style of the 2015, but it’s lively, elegant, and pure class. A blend of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot (the last time it was this blend was in 2010), the 2020 Château Ausone spent 20 months in new French oak, which has already been just about completely absorbed by this beauty. In comparison to the Chapelle d'Ausone, the Grand Vin is tighter and straighter, with an incredible yet primordial bouquet of red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with notions of iron, smoked tobacco, and graphite, with a liqueur of rocks-like sense of minerality. Dense purple-hued, full-bodied, backward, incredibly concentrated, and powerful, it has building tannins, a dense, stacked mid-palate, and enough structure and baby fat to warrant a solid decade of bottle age. This is a powerful Ausone built for the long haul, and it will unquestionably rank with the greats from the Vauthier family.

Needs eight to 10 years of bottle age to open and come together. Try after 2032.

Anfangs wenig offen. Etwas Amarenakirsche. Pfeffrige Noten. Mit Luftkontakt rote und schwarze Johannisbeere. Dann mehr und mehr harzig-würzige Aromen. Im Mund fleischiges Tannin mit einem kraftvoll Kalk-mineralisch unterlegten Gerbst- offkorn, dazu eine kultivierte, integrierte und dennoch auch vife Säure. Sehr lange Plateauphase in der Struktur, vibrierend vor Spannung, und dann doch auch mit einer cremigen Unterlage, die alles einbettet und abrundet. Große Länge.

TThis estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn't have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential.
