A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. matured for 18 months in oak. 40% new. the 2015 Tour Saint Christophe is deep garnet-purple in color with notes of wild blueberries. plum preserves and fruitcake plus touches of dried flowers and underbrush. The concentrated. full-bodied palate is packed with ripe blue and black fruits. supported by a solid foundation of plush. velvety tannins and finishes with wonderful length.

The 2015 Tour Saint-Christophe. owned by Peter Kwok since 2012. is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc cropped at 33 hl/ha between 3-16 October and matured in 40% new oak. It has an intense nose. perhaps slightly on the alcoholic side due to the Merlot (14.8%). The palate is more controlled and refined. There is still some new oak to be absorbed. but the tannins seem fine. and it is endowed with blood orange and citrus fruit lending freshness and tension on the long. sensual finish. Bottle-age will temper the nose and it should ultimately turn into a very impressive Saint Emilion.

Made of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. the 2017 Belair Monange is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. With a little swirling. this baby comes bounding out of the glass with energetic notes of wild blueberries. Morello cherries. baked plums and black raspberries with wafts of Indian spices. lavender. garrigue and tobacco plus a hint of licorice. Medium to full-bodied. the black and blue fruit dance playfully on the palate with fantastic freshness to lift the bold flavors and a superb frame of ripe. velvety tannins. It finishes very long and with amazing zing. So tempting to drink now. but make no mistake—this is one for the long haul!

Fresh earth. truffle. sous bois and attractively ripe blueberry and plum aromas here. It’s a bold and very pure. primary wine here for now. yet this has great potential. The palate reveals beautifully ripe red-plum and cherry flavors with a powerful tannin statement that carries impressive depth and scale on the finish. Give this time. Try from 2023.

The 2017 Bélair-Monange was so impressive out of barrel and now in bottle. I see no reason to alter my appreciation. It has a very intense bouquet. one that is reassuringly complex. especially in context of what was a rather ordinary growing season with copious red cherries. boysenberry. hints of iodine and a light terracotta scent. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are surprisingly rigid at the moment. suggesting that this will be a long term Saint-Émilion. There is a beguiling sense of symmetry. very mineral-driven towards the finish that has impressive sapidity. This comes highly recommended although it deserves five or six years in bottle. Bravo Christian and Edouard Moueix.

Intense aromas and flavors of blue fruit and violets. Hints of green tea and black olives. Changes all the time. Medium-to full-bodied with polished and very silky tannins. Love the center palate. The finish lasts for minutes. This year, about one-third cabernet franc gives an edge to the merlot and the touch of cabernet sauvignon.

Aging is in progress for an anticipated 20 months in 40% new. 40% one year-old and 20% two year-old barrels. The blend is 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

All of the signatures are in place, but delivered with more nuance than was once the case. Consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos has ushered in quite a change at the property in his first vintage here.
